Rear Air Compressor Shocks Not Working????

I have a ’92 Typhoon with 20" rims and stock suspension and I never hear the air pump working. The shocks in the rear feel fine when driving but I and not sure if the compressor is working. Any suggestions for testing it? If it ends up being bad, where can I get a new / used / rebuilt one? How about replacement air lines? Any sources or suggestions for replacing the air lines? Also, since I am planning on doing more winter service, I just may replace the air shocks. Any suggestions for a stock truck with 20 inch rims?

Lower the tailgate and set a load on it. Its a load leveling suspension. I never heard mine until I tailgated on it.

Pull the air compressor fuse thats labeled below the ecmb fusebox and see if you have a blown fuse. If the fuse is OK, take the fuse out for a few hours to bleed the rear shocks, then replace, which will activate the compressor to air the shocks back up. If it doesn't activate the compressor its a good chance your pump is dead or your leveler needs adjusting.

I checked the fuse for the air shocks and they were all good.

I checked the power going into the pump and there was none. Is there another in-line fuse? (BTW, I checked the power before the relay @ the pump). If I trace wire from the fuse back, where does the wire run?:roll:

BTW, does anyone have a wiring diagram so I can trace the wire or see if there is another fuse some place?

Another way is to "trick" the ELC system. Disconnect the height sensor arm from the bracket on the rear differential, and move it upward (simulating increased load) and see if the compressor turns on. Many GMs have this system, including Cadillac, Oldsmobile, Buick, GMC, and Chevy, you just need to know where to look for parts.

So I assume that power from the fuse goes to the sensor arm and once the sensor arm is engaged power is sent to the pump relay, which sends power to the pump??

I would also assume that if there is no power at the pump once the sensor arm is engaged, then the sensor arm is bad?? If power goes to the pump once the sensor arm is engaged, that that would indicate that the sensor is good and the pump is bad?

Is that correct?

To all others, I did check the switch/lever above the axle and nothing happened. I could not get to the electrical to test for power because it was all sealed. I guess the next step is to get to the pump and give it 12v to see if it runs?

Any advice?

Im having exactly the opposite problem. My sensor is constantly pumping up the suspension too high. I tried taking off the height sensor arm and let it hang straight for a couple minutes, and the shocks won't lower down. any suggestions? :tdown:

My advice is just replace the air shocks with so good
QA1 or just cheap Rancho gas unit believe me with those
20 inch rims your Ty will ride much better !!!! :tup:
