Range selector lever adjustment?

Just getting around to replacing the "wide" range selector with a "narrow" one from Sportmachines (Thanks Tom!). I only ran into one undocumented step.... what's the procedure for lining up the shift lever cable stud in the slot on the bracket? I took the stud off the old bracket, and before I could note it's position, it moved.

As an aside: Is there a torque value for the nut on the selector lever to transmission shaft nut?

Put it where it works pretty much.

With the shifter in Park, move the lever on the transmission all the way forward (into park) and see where the shifter cable stud is aligned in the slot. Put the shifter in D and put the transmission lever in D and see where the stud is now. Hopefully they are close and thats where you should tighten it. Then make sure you get the whole range of motion through the shifter, and it "stops in the right places. Park, lockout from OD to reverse etc.

Trial and error a little bit, but it worked for me a couple times.

As far as torque, I dont know. But dont break the selector rod into the transmission.
