Raced my own sy numerous time...interesting

Funny thing is, a sy or ty doesn't feel as fast as as they are. I always thought that my sy was fast but not as fast as my CTS-V. We'll, maybe it's the 6 speed in the V but it seems (butt dyno wise) quicker. We'll, that all changed tonight. We went out to eat and I asked my wife to drive the sy (like you've never wanted to or done this  ). OK so she hops in and I follow with my V. Sitting at a red light, she's first in line, me again behind, light turns green and she nails it. Now let me say, she did abosolutely zero power braking (AKA patented launch...she doen't even know about this technique). I gotta say, I beat the piss out of my V trying to keep up and no go. Up to about 70mph, she was consistently pulling on me. Again, no launch here, simply light green and pedal to the floor. We did this numerous times and the result was always the same. So, in a nutshell, the sy is quicker than my V. I have a full Corsa on the V too, only 15k miles, runs like a top.

Damn, I love to watch my own Sy driving down the road, hunkering down when under WOT, what a beautiful truck!

Good stuff!!!!

yeah they use a 5.7 v-8 ls6, rated around 400 hp, 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds or so, rear wheel drive

I'd like to see how my Ty does against my Nova. My Nova feels brutal, it'll break the tires loose almost anywhere in second gear, maybe even third. Traction is about zero off the line, even with 295/50-15's.

The funny thing is that I dont think the Nova will be much faster. The Ty will take it off the line easy. My best 60ft in the Nova is a 1.99, usually around a 2.1. The Nova runs high 12's at 110, so it'll win eventually but I would like to see it played out.

They only used the LS6 for the first couple of model years. The later ones (2005 + I think)got the 6.0L LS2 with 400HP.

I have a theory why the sy's dont feel as fast. I really believe that the seat, yes I said seat, plays a part in the gforce feeling.
In a sy the seat will not recline back AT ALL. I'ts pretty much straigt up and down, since the back wall is so close to the seat. Unlike your cadi you can give it a slight tilt back for comfort, I think that slight tilt back is what's fooling our brains. Anybody care to throw in 2cents.

"only the LS6" huh, that motor is ledendary!!! Both the LS6 and the LS2 are 400hp stock. Fantastic motors.

I know what the difference is well in my case anyways.. My last mustang ran high 11s and had a wicked power band.. where as the sy is close to that but the power band is soo smooth it doens't feel that fast.. well it does but not compared to cars of the same caliber that aren't awd turbo'd anways. That's the same reason why my wife was soo supportive in me selling the stang and buying the sy :)

Easy. I don't have anything against the LS series. I am actually working on converting the LS1 in my GTO to an LS6, as soon as this Typhoon stops taking all my time that is.

I didn't mean it was "only an LS6." What I meant was the CTS-V's don't all have the LS6, the newer ones went to the LS2 at about the same time the Corvette, SSR, GTO and Trailblazer SS did.

tried the same theory in my 6speed WS6 T/A. I like my driving position to be right up on the wheel, with the seatback vertical (makes me feel more Nascar-like).

anyways, at the track, i tried seatback up, and then reclined, and yeah, your lower body slides back into the seam of the seat, whereas with it straightup, there really isnt any place to slide back to.

i agree with you 100%.

with mine it's the 4500 rpm shift point. There's never a sound of higher rpms(I'm sure there is with Deanzsyclone ;) ). It's almost like driving a diesel. :rotf:

You should race your wife with her in the V and you in the SY. If she beats you in the V with no boost launch from the SY then we all know who wears the pants in your house. :rotf:

Dean you're definately right, and just to throw in my 2 cents the AWD does not transfer the vehicle weight like a RWD vehicle further supporting that the g-force feeling is not there. A couple of years ago I bought my wife an AWD astro van to replace her 2WD model. She drove from Tampa to Bradenton at 90 mph. When I asked her why she was driving so fast, she said the van doesn't go when you step on the gas.

Man I don't know what you guys are talking about. To me, how "fast" a car feels is 100% connected to the amount of torque it makes, and how hard it hooks. A Syclone makes a ton of torque, and hooks it all to the ground. Every time I ride in anything less, it feels a lot slower. A friend of mine just finished putting a $6500 T76 turbo kit on his LS1 that ran 10.14 @ 134 on his previous setup with a direct port 200 shot, and his car dynoed 662rwhp last week, and even then it doesn't feel as "fast" as my truck because the tires just spin and it fails to create the same G-Forces.

Especially if you consider the G-Forces experienced on a boosted launch, which are the highest of all.

N/A LS1s feel like the slowest of any "fast" cars I've rode in, because they have low torque, and high RPM, and there's just nothing to really put you back in your seat.

See, I see the complete opposite. My LS6 with 6 speed really puts you in your seat whereas the Sy, even though it's faster, doesn't. Now, I don't really agree with the AWD being the issue as my S4 did put you back in the seat. I tend to agree with the seat angle theory.....or maybe it's a bit of everything???? Who knows!
