PTE DP Clearance

Anybody else had a clearance problem with the dump tube portion of the DP?

I've got a full ATR exhaust w/ 3" ATR cat.
With the PTE DP installed, the dump tube portion of the DP hits the heatshield on the underside of the cab and the cat tube rests on the torsion X-member.

I tried to jockey it around but I can't seem to get everything to clear.

Removing the heatshield doesn't seem like a safe thing to do. It would give me some extra room, but the cat still sits on the torsion X-member when I tried this.

It looks to me like the angle from the dump tube to the cat is wrong.

Any ideas?

PS, thanks Rich for getting me motivated today.

Hey, as soon as you find out what the answer is let me know. I'm sure I will have the same problem.

So thanks for bringing it up.

Didn't have a clearance problem with my pte51 and ATR cat back. Play around with the band clamp, you can adjust/move it from there. I remove the dp a few times and every time it fits differently. I mean where the band clamp is you can push the dp up or down, you get a good 3" to play with.

Yeah, I did that.
I have it pulled almost all the way out of the slip joint. Any more and will be sloppy.

Believe me, I spent about 4 hours turning, twisting.

I'm gonna have to break down and by a digi-cam.

Hello,
I am interested in knowing what we are discussing here. Could someone be so kind to point me to a website that shows what the PTE setup is?
Thank you,

Rick I thought you already had the Earthlink special?

Yeah, you must have seen some of those photos.
What do you expect from a free camera.
I don't think pictures from that camera would clarify anything.

I ordered some new exhaust band clamps. Those stainless Walker clamps. Maybe those will give me some extra room to play with.

I did some checking around before I installed my PT52 setup, and apparently, the ATR 3" cat is almost two inches shorter than the cat supplied by PTE. That might be the source of your fitment problem. I didn't have any significant problems installing the PTE cat or downpipe. Everything fit like it was supposed to.

I did, however, modify PTE's cat. The system was designed to bolt up to the stock exhaust (and ATR's cat-back exhaust), which is 2.5" from the cat. So, PTE's 3" cat necks down to 2.4" at the outlet so it can mate with the bell at the front of the cat-to-muffler pipe. I cut the neck off the cat and welded on a 3" piece of straight pipe. I then cut the 2.5" section (with the bell and clamp) off the cat-to-muffler pipe in my ATR system, and replaced it with a piece of 3" slip-fit pipe. Finally, I used a muffler clamp to seal the joint.

I asked Harry about PTE selling a modified cat and replacement cat-to-muffler pipe as an option or upgrade, so you could get a bolt-on 3" setup that was 3" all the way through. He thought it was a nice idea, but told me he had too much money invested in the current kit design and couldn't do any options until he had sold a bunch more turbo kits and recouped some of his money.

The more I look at it the more I wonder.
Like the first slip joint off of the exhaust housing. It is like 3"-4" deep.
If I were to push the second piece of the DP in as far as it would go, I'd really have problems.
As it is right now, the second piece is only in about .5"-1".

Overall, I don't think my fitment problem is related to the cat. Although that is probably another subject.
The fact that one part hits the cab & another part hits the chassis, indicates to me, an angle problem.
I'm gonna fart around with it some more until I get it to clear.
There is no way I'm gonna drive around with the exhaust rubbing/resting on the points I mentioned.

As a side note that might be a factor in my problem. I'm using the Rockford Racecraft poly motor mount kit. I was thinking that maybe the mounts are now causing the motor to sit up higher, which in turn would change the angle of the exhaust.
Has anyone else that has installed these mounts notice any differences in there exhaust hook up?

Old, it just came out last year, at least as far as I knew. Of course, we all hope you will share your knowledge if you have something better, after all that's what this BB forum is all about.

Either way i still don't understand PTE, My 1st post i asked what it was, nobody told me. I never knocked PTE! Ill be running an ??mm ball bearing turbo, custom front mount inctercooler, kb headers, external pro-gate, je piston rings,3" custom downpipe, 50 lb inj's, a speepro, ??????? heads ,and a lot of time and planning for july, HEHEHE, I dont know whats going to happen we'll see what she dials in after the dyno tune!!i have no problem with sharing info. I just havent seen numbers that are that impressive from sy/ty's off of a pte setup, prove me wrong!!

My setup in the end is going to be around 15,000 big ones for those who are wondering.

I'm not trying to start a flame war here, but I think you had better hang around here before you spend all those $$$$, and get somemore facts. I will be spending about $5-6k, and I gotta believe you will be on the losing end of any race with me. Anyway, more power to you.

And good luck,

No, but he's using better heads than your ????? heads... in fact he's using !!!!!!! heads. I think he's sold some && mm turbos to other people as well

PTE turbo's have run the numbers.. PTE turbos have powered McCoy's 9 sec truck, my old 11.0 Syclone, a few other McCoy trucks deep in the 11s as well. All that's left for very stock type trucks to run well is my calibrations & some tuning on the user end

You talk about doubting a turbo system that hasn't run the number, yet brag about your system that is still in the planning stages?

Go ask Mike about the PTE setup, he can give you the lowdown, he may even give you a full basic Syty education if he has the time and patience.
