Hey all,

Well, wrenched all day. Forgot what it felt like. I'm beat and the truck still doesn't run. Typical. HA HA. Anyway, motor is 90% assembled. I finished up the Short block Thursday night. Got the heads on and torqued Friday, as well as the oil pan, modified for the eagle rods, and timnig cover. Got up this morning and started bolting everything else up. I got the exhaust manifolds on, cross over, turbo, turbo plumbing, Accessory brackets, power steering pump. I'm missing 3 of the 4 water pump bolts, so its kinda just hang'in out. I also dropped the t-case and tranny. Came out pretty easy, did it myself with 2 hands and 2 jacks. That thing needs to go on a diet.

I was going to drop the engine in tonight, but the cherry picker I rented seems to be a little weak. Looks like the cylinder is bad on it. Oh well, have to go back tomorrow and get their other one. Hopefully I'll be able to get the engine and tranny back in tomorrow.

How did you fix the oil pan? I have the eagles as well. I did modify the oil return so it would clear the 4-bolt caps. Had to put the project away 'til I get a place to work on it again.

As suggested by several list members, I used a hammer. I painted the inside of the pan white. Put the pan on with no gasket, stuck two bolts in but didn't tighten them down. Just enough to keep the pan from coming off/sliding around. I then turned the crank a couple of rotations. The rod's will contact the pan and scratch the paint. Take the pan off, support the rails, and take a couple of wacks with a board and a hammer where the marks are. It won't take much. Then recheck the pan. Do this until the rods don't touch the pan. When you put the gasket back on there will be plenty of clearance.

AHHH the Big Hammer Brute Force Method
I kinda fiqured somethin like that. White paint was a good idea.

You can fix anything with a hammer,vice-grips and hundred-mile-an-hour-tape!

Ah ha! The motor is in. However, the weather turned off major crappy today. Its cold, wet, and did I mention cold? So under the trusty ol' eazy-up tent we got the motor in. Don't think we get get the tranny in today though. Maybe tomorrow. Oh yeah, It took 3 tries before we found a cherry picker that worked. What a pain. Glad that part is over. Off to start hooking wires up.

I noticed that you didn't modify the coolant areas around the intake. I believe someone mentioned this, but you may run into problems sealing that area up.. I had to weld along the ports as well as the coolant areas I *recall* (memory isn't as gooder as it used ta be).

I'd definitely spend some time porting up that intake around the injector bung area.

Thanks for the heads up. I did spend some time on the intake ports. I didn't get any pictures of it though. Takes to long to work, snap pick, work, etc... The water ports seem to match up pretty well. I had to modify the gasket a bit. I *think* it will seal. Time will tell.
