Previous trannys' carnage

Well, its not much really. Keep in mind that when I took it out of the truck the truck seemed to run OK. It was starting to feel like it was slipping in the high RPM areas a little but was never really too sure. I swapped because I spent all summer building one when I was bored and when I had finished it, I got real anxious as mine was sterting to act up a little and decided to go ahead and swap them out. Well today I just got around to pulling the old trans apart and at first I didnt see anything wrong. All the clutches I took out were in damn good shaped (compared to my last one anyway) and I saw no obvious broken parts. UNTIL...I got the output shaft snap ring off and took all that good stuff out. Heres what I found :

Fair looking clutches (especially for 30,000 miles and boost launching atleast once a day)

So all in all it couldve been worse. Not sure where I am going to get my new parts yet but will be re-building it here soon. I cant wait. Getting a hardened sunshell for sure. I have one in my current tranny so Im definately putting one in this trans. Gotta replace a damn planetary too, theyre not that cheap either.

If you are going to build another tranny , why not build an 80e ? Building another 700 because you know your going to need it one day should be a sign that you need something a little stronger .

Ha!! Very true. Just dont have the cash for it on hand. I will however, be piecing together my 4L80E conversion throughout the summer. I plan on having it dont by the end of summer 08. I know it seems like a long way off but I have other thigns I have to get dont first. And I can build the 700 cheap and make it last that long you know? So far I plan on getting the trans first obviously. I plan opn having that by the time NATs rolls around. Im planning on going with a GT35R so the 4L80 will definately be a necessity.

Yeah you should save for one . I have been testing out my new tranny and I can say I have no complaints . I know because of George and Jeff , I will never have to worry about another tranny failure for a long long time .

I believe ya. Unfortunately Im not on Georges buddy list so x that out. Ill get it though.

the rear planet support you showed is not overheated. all of them look like that way. at least all the ones I've ever seen.

So they are. I went down and looked at my other two and sure as shit they are both like that.
