Mega Raptor 700

Anyone running one of these? I lost OD and 3rd last night just driving and I'm goign to do a rebuild. I'm thinking of buying a Level 3 kit or possibly the Mega Raptor kit and put the 700R4 back in for now. Looks like I can build a decent tranny for $1000.00 I have a feeling the tranny is where my vibration was coming from...............

Dont bother with the non-syty guys. Go with RPM's or one of our vendors, that way it wont be the wrong stuff. Even a fully built one through my tranny guy is 1600 bucks without a converter. He says his stuff is better than the Raptor stuff for less $$.

Im going to have him build me a 80e, so i have some trust with him. He has built a few th400 for me and my friends.

I would just do a rebuild and save for a 80e,or buy a used trans off here, either way, cheaper and faster back to the road.

Thanks for the reply! I have a couple of 80e's but I don't want to install them because they're mated to LSX blocks. If Install the tranny, the motor will be replaced with the LSX also and I really want to stay stock for now. I'll check in the vendor forum and see who can sell me the best kit for 800 plus HP. I know this is overkill but I want the best for future upgrades.

if you eventually will swap to a lsx in your engine, why not get the 4l80E in it already. you got it already, spent the 1-2K at your 4l80E and you are 1/2 there for the swap. looks like a waste of $$ the way you are thinking.

Thanks for the reply! I have a couple of 80e's but I don't want to install them because they're mated to LSX blocks. If Install the tranny, the motor will be replaced with the LSX also and I really want to stay stock for now. I'll check in the vendor forum and see who can sell me the best kit for 800 plus HP. There's no such thing as an 800 HP 700R4. Or even a 700 HP one. Regardless of what anyone tries to sell you.

The mega raptor is a well built unit, they have been around for a long time and have a great reputation. I have an IROC z28 with a 700r4 with 638rwhp ( supercharged with AFR heads/cam....you name it). My tranny guy knows the 700r4 like nobody and he built mine instead of going to the 480le (I think that's the stronger of the two) as he said he could build my 700r4 to handle the power I have put down. I have had the tranny for 6 years with no problems. The mega Raptor has the same components as my 700r4, a tranny cooler is cheap insurance. I don't care what anyone says, I know from first hand that if built properly, the 700r4 can hold a lot of hp. It's just a matter of finding a builder who knows what there doing. Like I said, Mega Raptor has a good reputation and have been around for aprox 10 years or more, that's gotta account for something.

HP is not the same a torque, it's AWD and torque that kills the transmission.
i also agree that a good build 700r4 can handle some power. but WOT downshifting etc is not going to give it a long life

Yes, the guy who built my tranny told me NEVER to manually downshift the tranny as it can bust the sun drive gear. I have "The Beast" sunshell drive gear which is fine if your tranny drops down automatically, but you should never to do it manually!

OK I guess I was just lucky then.... Because the 700 in my truck has 20,000 hard miles on it and 10-11000 of them are behind a 700hp/750tq motor. And it is still doing fine I even lock the converter on the 1-2 shift. I have also road raced it at Hallet Raceway in OK. Downshifted it manually at every corner and yet it still lives. And I didn't use one of the ultra super special vender's or mega this and that just a $500 bench build from Superior Transmission in Jacksonville Ar. Even got a warrenty with it. And he knew what I did with the truck because he street races with the same bunch I do.LOL

I've decided to do a bench job on the tranny myself and beef it up as strong as possible. I'm not too worried about the money I put into the 700R and I really don't like the weight of the 4L80E. I have a 4L60E in my 97 LSX truck and It's been a great tranny for the torque I'm putting down and I can run low 12's all day long weighing 5000 lbs and low 11's on nitrous with no issues. I was just wanting to get some info on the Raptor kit because I had read about it but I've decided to put together my own with a Beast Sunshell, 13 vane pump and many other mods for the 700. If I put in the 4L80 I'd have to have the tranny controls and I'd rather wait if I decide on the LSX so I can put the PCM in instead of a compushift. I don't like piecing things together, I'd rather go all of the way instead of half.

Raptor sells off the shelf stuff as custom and copies some of our board members stuff. .

That's a prime example of why we lost a vendor. Look at his 80e conversion stuff and ask around.

Anyone can buy from Daaco, Transstar, or the like companies and save a ton

Don't do the 13 vane pump, in this case more isn't better.
