MAT temps,Kr again

hey guys,
Is 50 degress celcius on a 15 degree celcius day sound alright for MAT temps. Im trying to figuire out this KR problem for the last year with no luck. The trucks got AFPR, Walbro pump, MSD ignition coil, 10mm magnacore, tried NGK-ur5 and NGK-ur5ix, heat wraped ic, heater hose lines, upgraded ic pump, 58mm TB, cone air filter aux lower ic, timing back 2-3 retard, new iac, new tps, new Knock sensor, new Map, new CTS, deleted egr,. Everything has been replaced with no success. I still get 10KR on 94octane gas. Plase any help would be appreciated. Fern Sy#477

I remember someone else saying they had knock and had "the best Magencore wires". I think BG said he had bad luck with them too. A lot of people end up switching back from MSD to stock ignition stuff. Again, BG said that he hasn't seen a truck that actually NEEDED and upgraded ignition, and it usually gets put back to stock for troubleshooting. Maybe try some plain old AC parts and some Taylor wires, if you haven't already?

I had the KR problem before the wires, the wires were just insurance for me. 50 degrees celcius is about 125 degrees fari. You guys think deleting the egr would actually contribute to more detonation?? Thats why there installed on vehicals to lower combustion chamber temps, right??

No. Deleting the EGR would help with you MAT temps. It could lower your tems with 40F or so. However you need some chipping to do it nice.

You may want to try ur6 or ur6ix, they are one step colder and may help. folks on here have had succes with these plugs.

Where does the 10 degree retard occur? At higher rpms? TC lockup?

Blow-by or any oil recirculated by the pcv really lowers your octane. There's not much you can do except take it easy, back off the timing or rebuild it.

There are also some situations where false knock occurs. Electrical noise or other mechanical noise may contribute to this. Run some high octane gas to see if the knock goes down. If it stays about the same, there's a good chance it's false knock. There are ways of dealing with false knock, but that's another thread.

About EGR:

The purpose is to lower NOx emissions. Exhaust gas is introduced into the intake. Since exhaust has little oxygen, the effect is to richen the mixture. EGR raises mat temps, but may lower combustion temperatures. Rich mixtures typically have lower combustion temperatures.

The key is where the knock is occuring. You should notice a relationship between EGR duty cycle and knock if EGR is involved.

I thought the ur5's were the colder plug. I just spent a bunch of cash on the NGK-ur5ix. Im gonna try the NGK-ur6 tomarrow and see if those help. I have the EGR valve installed but the intake and exhaust passages welded closed. Thats why I asked if the EGR would actually help lower KR. I think Im gonna try the colder plugs and 5 gallons of race fuel mixed with 94octane. This f*%kin truck, I cant even drive it with out worrying about blowing a piston. I dont know when the knock is occuring. What should I look at while doing my runs?? Im guessing shift points?? Thanks for the help guys, hopefully with your help I could get this thing running right.
