Fri night I get a call that a buddy has lost the trans in his 86 T-type and needs transportation, no problem I'll be there in a couple of hours. He is the best Turbo Regal tuner I know so I jump at giving him my car for a week, plus he's a hell of a good guy and a great friend.
3/4 of the way to his place ( 1 hour and 20 mins. from here) we stop for fuel and I fill the Ty and GN with 93. Damn $60.00. It's about 7:30 and 55 degrees out so I tell my girl when we get out on the E-way that when we get a chance slow down to 50 mph and after 3 horn honks got WFO.
Both are cool and running street tune (SMC is dead in the GN) and after 2 and 1/2 honks I go. The 200 downshifts quicker than the 700 and I get about a door on her, then she stays put until 75+ where she starts to gain on me. At 85 I let off but she is pulling. Even when running my love and when she's in my other car I still get the racing jitters,....it's that close.
After a couple of beers I tell my story to the two buddies that are there (both TR owners) and hang my head in shame. The GN won but only under those conditions and although the GN isn't exactly slippery it should pull hard on a true brick from 50 mph.
Remember that AWD = great launches but these things aren't slow from a roll either.
My three runs I've wanted to win,
#1 LT1 bird, auto, headers, DR's, ram air, pulleys, 14.4 to my 14.2 (first track trip).
#2 90's notch 302 converted to carb 13.5 to my 13.7 ( spraying 250. runs 15.0 w/out spray)
#3 My #1 modded hot-air GN, no SMC or spray, lost by a door (weird a loss and win at the same time).
THIS TRUCK KICKS ASS!!!!!!!
