I recently rebuilt and installed the motor for my Ty. As I started to drive it around I noticed that the shifts did not seem to be occurring at the right times (shifting very late and then slamming into gear at low speeds/light throttle). I made sure that there was enough fluid in the tranny and that the cooler lines were connected. So my next check was the TV cable adjustment. I found several posts on the forum about the procedure and expected results. After I pressed the adjustment button and pushed the fitting all the way over to the drivers side I released the button. I began to rotate the throttle linkage by hand. This seemed more difficult than expected. Then I felt a large CLICK and as I continued to rotate another large CLICK. According to the posts I read the adjustment should be fairly smooth with a few small clicks. It appears to me that the ratcheting mechanism is frozen/rusted in place and I am just forcing the teeth past it. I tried the procedure a few times and had varying results but wanted to see if it made a difference in my shifts. It made a huge difference but now I think I need a new cable unless there is a way that I might be able to free up the ratcheting mechanism. I saw that George Blake used to sell replacement cables but it appears that he does not frequent the site very often any more. Is there somewhere else I can get a cable? Any help is appreciated.
