Locker Front Diffs

Hey Guys,

Got my Front Diff. out now and got some damage on the Pass side case, so now is the time to consider this.

Anyone know if there R any advanatges or disadvantages to using a locking Front Diff. ? I can't see it on a stocker, but I will have at least 500 HP on my Bowtie rebuild, so maybe it could be useful there.

I will still be a street car 1st, and race a few times a year. I am particularly wondering how rough these things R on the street. If there are only disadvantages on the road, I may not be interested.

I suppose they my help w 60' times on the track w this much HP, altho' w the stock truck, I couldn't even spin the rear tires, much less the front.

okay, i know there are a few threads, but didnt find them through my first look...

one company had them available for a while, not anymore.
in order to get a locking front diff now, you would need to switch out your front axle assembly with another that will accept a limited slip unit.

Hey Guys,

Just an FYI - I have the lock right on the rear of my 93 Sonoma and while it enhances traction to the ground, it is very "CLANKY" in its operation. The teeth sometimes do not engage correctly on take off and you get a large clunk. From locking the axle, the rear tires scrub around every corner, and when driving in the wet you'd swear the thing will put you in a ditch on the side of the road.

I don't know how this thing would react on the front axle - prolly a broken half shaft.
