some peop, esay its good for a tenth of a second, it is bad for the tranny because it will generate much more heat

It'll REDUCE heat and is usally good for 2-3 tenths. I think its worth it, 2 free tenths are hard to come by.

Hey Mark,

At what point in the pass do you engage the TC lockup in order to achieve the 2-3 tenths? Do you bring it in at the 1 - 2 shift? Thanks.

Locking the TC took me from ~8.00 to 7.78 in the 1/8mi. Nothing else changed... just locked the TC a few moments after the 1-2 shift.

HTH..

p.s. Thats with a 9/11 TC BTW, not the stocker.

How do I install a TC lockup switch, instead of having to use a paper clip?

So why is it bad to drive in it all the time?

I lock it before the run, it engages on the 1-2 shift.

Indentify a location where the switch will be easily accessible while driving. A simple rocker or toggle switch from Autozone or Kragen will do.

Locate the 2 pins on the backside of the ALDL connector that you short with the paper clip.

Cut your wire long enough to reach between the switch & the ALDL connector.

Splice a wire into each lead to the 2 pins.

Mark, I've put together a chart showing the rpm vs road speed for both lock and unlock TC. The TC lock on the 1-2 shift looks good, but it looks like the 2-3 shift with TC locked really drags the motor down below the peak torque rpm band. Is this your experience? Also, how do you think this affects the tranny clutches? Do you think a different chip calibration is necessary for TC lock vs unlock operation? Thanks. Howard

It does drag down the motor on the 2-3, So I manually shift mine, thanks to Dig for the advice, works great.

maybe that's my problem.

I've noticed the engine takes awhile in 3rd to come up. I think the DIG chip I have locks it up at the 2-3 shift? Is it possible for the chip to lock up the tc under WOT? I tried manual shifting 2-3 and it knocks a bit in the higher rpm in 2nd. The knock completely dissapears above 4000 in 3rd though.

Depends on what he did to the chip, but most likely it locks at 66-69 mph which is just after the 2-3. I can make a chip that'll lock on the 1-2,but isn't streetable, there may be more options, I'll have to look through promgrammer.

I thought with the stock ECM it was impossible to lock it on the 1-2 shift through the chip. I thought that had to be done with a manual switch. So much to learn....

Dig had a chip with full lock up, I'll check shouldn't be very hard, as soon as I get my laptop working again I'll let you know.

Mark,

When you do the 2-3 shift manually with TC locked, what rpm / mph do you make the shift? Based on my rpm / mph chart for locked TC, it looks like ~4600 rpm / ~62 mph is about right to keep the motor from being pulled down too far on the 2-3 shift. What's your experience on this?

Also, When you launch the truck, do you put the gear selector in 2nd gear? Thanks.

The 2nd to 3rd bog used to be a problem for my truck, with the TC locked, when it was running high 12's, low 13's. The 2-3rd shift doesnt bog it much now. I lock up the converter before I stage, so it is locked from 2nd on...
