Knock Talk / Lifter Questions

Knock Retard... My worst enemy. Some of you guys probably don't like it too much either.

I have been tinkering with my truck for a while now trying to rid it of knock/detonation. So far I have upped the fuel pressure, dropped the boost, added octane booster on top of premium chevron gas, changed the cap & rotor, everything. I should have my fuel pressure guage hooked up this week (was waiting on the goodridge kit), then I will know if my fuel pump is taking a shit or not.

Here's a problem I have though. I have some kind of lifter tap in the engine. It comes and goes, sometimes it's not there, sometimes it's hella loud, and sometimes it's quiet. Can this be setting off the knock sensors, or worse yet, be causing my detonation? Could it be causing valve malfunction?

It's so wonderful waking up in the morning, starting my truck, and having it make noises like there is not one tight bolt on the whole engine.

WHO MAKES A GOOD SET OF LIFTERS FOR US??? Crane? Comp?
I want some ASAP. And has anyone ever done a changeout on these? How long did it take, if so.

comp and crane both make good lifters for our trucks. and YES a lifter tap will certinly get picked up by the knock sensor

Some guys have used Valvetune/Valvemedic to help quiet stock lifters to reduce knock retard.
