looking at gettin a larger turbo later on, but can get a 3k stall t/c cheap.Would this help the stock setup or hurt it?

Cheap and racing don't go together well. You get what you pay for. Before you "try" something, go to the nationals or homecoming and see if someone will ride with you and let you drive their truck and ask them what stall and type of converter they have and get an idea how the converters behave.

Maybe he found a deal on a converter and doesn't want to pass it up. :dunno: There are other forms of cheap, though.

I know he probably did, Justin. Myyellowty, I just hate to see you go through the trouble involved installing a torque converter and it mess up the trans or not act like you want it to. If it came off of a failed trans "with 1000 miles" it will fill yours up with crud. You wouldn't believe how many guys on here(I've got a gig of emails that I keep on this stuff) have been burnt getting "deals" on torque converters only to find out that the converter was bad and they just wanted to get some money back out of it. Or it was SUPPOSED to be a 3000 stall and really came in at 4500 stall because they spec'd something wrong and didn't want to pay to have it restalled. Hey, you may try it and love it. Find the converter manufacturer and see what they say about first though.

Unless you KNOW the history of that torque convertor, you're taking a $2k gamble.
If it's full of crap from a blown trans or was the cause of a trans going south, what do you think it'll do to your trans? (which I'll assume is currently functional)
Can you afford to replace the trans if your cheap TC wipes it out? And don't figure on a AMMCO special or a used one from a salvage yard, I wouldn't bet either would last a week. Plan on spending some $$$ to get one set up right.
So, you gotta ask yourself: Are you feeling lucky? Can you afford to be on the loosing side of this gamble?

Well, It is a Art Carr 3k, and im checking to verify its the lock up version.Im trying to get a part# from it and pics.Was going to see how much to send to Art Carr and have it checked and cleaned stall checked etc if need be.Its a member here thats friend had it in a in his vette and went Nos and upped to a 3500 stall.He bought it intending to replace his 2800 but then went to a 4l80e instead.He forgot he had it, I found an old post and contacted him.His price is good compared to the $900 new price. And what the hell.....Im sure some can attest for this person--MRKING--
Just want to make sure it would be fine on a stock motor per say.(I know each truck is different and cant guarantee my truck is up to par). But SHOULD it be ok, might be better put.Im in San Diego and cant get ahold of any locals to test drive,ride and Nats is not possible unfortunately.Thanks for the replies!!
