Got spanked last night!!!

I know this is supposed to be for kills but I was the one who got killed last night and want some advice on what to do about it.
I was on my way to work and had a newer 05+ Grand Prix GTP (supercharged) pull up next to me on the freeway. My 92 Ty is mostly stock. He slowed up to pull next to me at about 75-80 mph and then he hit it. I hit it about the same time, maybe a little after he did. I got left for a second and then kind of leveled out and stayed with him about 3 car lengths behind and could not make any ground on him at all.
I know (hope) it would have been a different race from a dig but at speed on the freeway I had nothing for a stock GTP.....thats a concern! I used to have a cammed LS1 T/A and I would've smoked that guy. Now I can't hang...what should I do first to start making headway, best bang for the buck??!! Thanks!!

Race him from a light or go bigger turbo. You can try alky tune and crank up the boost too but stock trucks blow from a roll:2cents:

and like mentioned, these truck suck from a roll. Off the line is the best way to go especially stock/stockish.

A good running (which is rare) stock Typhoon will trap about 96-97mph. I don't know what the new GTP run, but my buddies late 90 GTP ran 100mph trap will a pulley and couple other small mods. With some bolt on mods and tuning you can get a stock turbo Typhoon to run ~102-103mph traps. 'Six is Enough' has had good traps (110+) with a well tuned Sy and stock turbo and modiifed wastege and 3" downpipe, however he so far has been the only person I know that has had sucess with that set up. If you want something faster from a roll, you really need a bigger turbo.

Just a few weeks ago I had a chance to run my Sy (modded) up to speed as-it-were. Was still pullin' hard at 120. No clue what top end is. Given some room I'd give that Ponti-horse a run for his money. But like's been said doing a pull with a car like that from 75-80 is gonna be a tough sell.

Thanks for the replys guys. We weren't out for a race...I didn't even know who the guy was...just a random street encounter on my commute to work at 3:00a.m. on the freeway. He was flyin and then slowed up next to me, I guess he knew what a Typhoon was. I've had encounters like that before in my T/A and it was a good laugh. He slowed up next to me and then hit it so I hit it to. Speed was around 75mph and went up to around 100. Then I let off when I saw I wasn't going to make any ground up on him. A while later he slowed up again enough to where I got up close to him again. Same thing happened.
Looks like I will be building a new 4.3 V-6 with a larger turbo in the future. I love the acceleration my Ty puts down from a stop, even stock. Lots of fun. Now I am starting to learn the limits of this truck and where improvements need to be made.
I appreciate the info guys!!! I knew alot about LS cars, I am a newbie when it comes to the SyTy trucks and am a sponge for knowledge on them. I always wanted one though and have bad back problems so the slammed to the ground, cammed, stalled, etc, T/A had to go (did all that to it years before the back surgery) even though I knew the Ty wasn't going to be as fast. An SUV was a more suitable choice but I still needed some power....Typhoon was a logical choice IMO. Now I have a better understanding of what this truck is and isn't capable of and what I need to do to change that!

Datamaster and a cheap laptop are in the very near future so I can at least see where I'm at and start making some adjustments. I don't hear any knock but that doesn't mean it's not present. I will be making that investment VERY soon.

one of my guys that worked for me at the shop had one of those gtps and with minor bolt ons they rip!!!!

i so disagree with from a roll, and from a light... from a light we rule pretty damn everything, but you're talking about a modded car beating you.

if we talk modded syty's i disagree they don't kill from a roll. all of my trucks will snap your neck, from a roll as they snap from a stock boostlaunch.

YES they do . Ive had a 2002 GTP anniversary, Regal GS , and a bonneville ssei very quick and fun cars even stock.

It is very possible. Apparently the truck I have was playing around with a newer Acura TL (a friends) before I bought it and my buddy smoked him....again on the freeway at about 70mph. At the time I didn't think much about what he had said about seeing the truck or one exactly like it near his place but now it is starting to make sense.
I drove the Saturn version of that car (Ion) and it was suprisingly quick. In fact I know a guy who had a mildly modded one that kept up with my friends stock 99 Trans Am. Granted he kept up for a little while and then tappered off but it was still impressive to me.

My father has both a silver Comp G GTP, and a red GXP which is of course LS4 powered. I'll have to get him to let me take them out one weekend and see how they run while he has the kids. I've ridden in both with him around town at different times over the years but never really payed much attention to either considering at the time I had the T/A and neither of those would touch that car. At least not with the mods that were done to it. I had alot of money in that beast.

Time to start spending some money on the new toy! I'm starting with the Datamaster and then going from there. I will probably buy a V-6 to build in the mean time and just take my time with it as the truck seems to run pretty well right now with just a slight rough idle...nothing bad.
