Re: Gm 4l80e

Well, thats about as much as I would spend for a core, which is what it sounds like this is.

Keep in mind that the 80E is NOT a direct swap for the 700R4. You will need alot of other components (conversion output shaft & adapter, trans crossmember, torque convertor, COMPUTER to run the trans, etc). Do you have the $$$ for the rest of the swap? Because, depending upon your needs and skills, that $500 transmission may cost you another $5000 to put in.

Search around on here. Make sure you check out Prime Gears in the Vendor's section, because he sells all the parts you need.

I keep saying this and I know guys are sick of it but......26 posts. After you do some searching, you'll see that $5K isn't much compared to 3,4,6 rebuilds of a 700r4. If you are gonna race it, there is an assumed risk you are gonna break something. Just recently I saw a post where a fellow did the typical. Spend $7K on the engine. Take it out and blew the trans on it's maiden voyage. Even though a 700 may only have 50K miles on it, doesn't mean you can beat on it. Remember that a 700r4 (stock) is based on 20 year old technology. The reason we came up with the 4L80e conversion is because you pay the money, do it once, forget about it. It's approximately the cost of 2 700r4 builds but you don't have the aggrivation. Next issue is the transfer case and the rear diff. But at least the 700 is no longer the weakest link. $450 to $500 is the common price for a core.
The reason I limit the 700r4 I build is because, even though a billet output shaft and billet input shaft is available, there's still a little bitty sprag that flips and an aluminum input drum. The cost of the billet parts puts the cost of the 700 over that of a built 4L80e. As long as those two weak links are there, the 700 will never be a consistent performer. The 700s longevity is usually measured in the number of passes it survived. To keep parts from breaking, you lower pressure...then you sacrifice clutches. With the 80e it goes by seasons, not passes.

EU, as in European Union???

Well, that may change the evaluation of the core price....A trans is a fairly big heavy thing to ship across the pond, especially air-mail....

Read up on the plethora of posts on this board about the 80E....Depending upon what your desires are (hold 450 hp driven fairly conservatively or 800hp beaten on daily) will determine exactly what your build requirements are, and therefore the associated budget.

Cost wise, you're still not going to get away from a few things:
1.) Rebuilding the core
2.) Changing the output shaft for the custom 27spline shaft
3.) Computer to control the trans
4.) Adapter to mount up the Tcase to the 80E
5.) Torque Converter to suit your application (if one comes with the core, its likely to be all wrong for what you need, and the factory converters are beasts, like 65+ lbs).
6.) New transmission mount / crossmember.

Depending upon what labor you can provide and your desires, you may be able to do an 80E conversion for alot less than $5k. Research....

Re: Gm 4l80e

yep im from Europe

I think my gold is to pull out 150hp more becours it´s still gonna be a daliy drive, but from GerogeB says in all his threads the 700 is hardly worth efford of a global shiping, but im still leaning on giving the modifiede 700 a change more, just need a core in the US -.- whit all this in minde, it seams like the cheapest way to go in the US is the L80E but some RL research in scandinivia the bulid will cost way to much 12k+ USD might as well buy a hole modefide turck in the us insted whit the e80 all ready installed +engien mods

Re: Gm 4l80e

If you want to build up your existing 700, I can get you a true DIY kit for $1400. That has all the updated pieces, assembled modified input drum with a modified sprag. All hard parts cryo'd ready to drop in. It is a lot cheaper to ship the parts than it is to ship the whole trans. I can get you a converter as well if you don't have one already. Just email or PM. $12000 US dollars to build a trans is nonsense.

That was a possibility, im gonna keep this in minde! any way shipping accros the point with about 50 kiloes cost around 500$ (fedex) so im still hopning that when the day comes
and i finde a empty shell in the US, im gonna ship to Ohio, and let you do you magic insteed :D  ,so that tranny is just gonna be a drop in!
the math. Build 700r4 tranny will run cash wise!
500$ for a used core(asumming that the price for a 700 is the same as a e80)
1900$+130$ build
500$ in shipping

total = 3030$

And the only thing that i have to do is replace the olde unit! "plug ánd play style" that can´t be that hard
(ever wondre where the monny is! it´s in skandinivia building auto-trandsmissions you can apparently easly make 100-150USD and houre if you know your craft! to menny plp that don´t have a f**king idear what they are doning whit AT´s overhere  )
