Front/rear differentials...

Hey... Im just curious if the front differential is the same as the rear differential in terms of the internals (ie: gears, etc). Im wondering if the internals from a rear diff could be put in the front diff or are there considerable differences that would prevent this?

OR

Could a front diff be put in the rear and modified to work back there?
