Front prop shaft

How hard is it to actully pull the front prop shaft on these truck I gotta pull mine tonight am not really looking forward to it,any surprises or parts that get in the way of removal

It's a piece of cake. Only 4 bolts on either end and it drops out. I had to jack one of the front wheels and one of the back wheels up off the ground in order to be able to spin the tires...spins the drive shafts, to get at all of the bolts on the transfer case side. Just make sure to chock the tires if you do this.

I remember reading somwhere that it is balanced and supposed to go back in in the exact same position as it came out. I don't know if that is true or not. But I marked my flanges prior to removal and put it back in the same orientation just to be sure.

If it has never been off the truck before, the bolts are going to be VERY tight. Leverage is your friend, a breaker bar is highly recommended. You are going to need torx sockets to remove the bolts. An E12 for the front and E14 for the rear ones. Try and use a regular socket and you will round them off... HTH's

AND the bolts have loctite on them. If you can get some heat on the flange at the threads it will help allot, they will come right out.

Apparently mine has been out of the truck before then. It had regular, six sideed bolts on it that I got with a regular box wrench.

My bad.

I don't know what others will say but I could not get the e14 socket on the stock rear bolts so I used a 12pt wrench with a pipe extension. If needed get a large screwdriver through the other yoke to counteract you breaking the bolt loose. The one I use is like 24" long and 1/2" thick

I had the same problem. Because I was afraid of stripping the bolt head I ended up buying an expensive torx box wrench from Snap On, but it worked. Want to rent it? :lol:

That's why I mentioned applying some heat, made a huge difference.

I only did the 12pt wrench trick once per truck I have replaced propshafts on then bought some bolts from Mike so I wouldnt have to mess with the stock style again

visegrips work wonders. i used a set when i busted my second prop shaft in dallas.

I bought the socket set came off without a hitch Thanks again for all the help it was almost too easy
