Front hub alternatives,

I've been looking for an alternative to the stock style front hub. I don't mean a timken or dearbourne. I mean a different design preferably lighter. The stock hubs weigh in at just under 10lbs each. I tried wilwood but they don't make anything to accept a cv. GMR can and is willing to make just about anything when it comes to hubs and I would say are arguably the best route to go but not at all cheap. I've looked into the skf c6 zr1 rear hubs but they are pretty much the same weight, although they would be better suited for my intended use.

I feel like I may be chasing my tail trying to save a few pounds in unsprung weight. Has anyone else looked into any other options?

what are you trying to accomplish with this? i see no real advantage of a 1-2 lb loss, for this amount of a pain in your ass. ditching the a/c, or abs would save waaaayyyy more weight. unless this is a balls-out build and you've already done that,

My goal is to shave weight in a responsible manner? It will be a road course truck. Ideally I'm trying to lose weight off the front more then anything. A/C is done, abs is done. The typical things like battery in the back. Lighter wheels/tires.

I'm doing a different suspension set-up then what's typically seen on an awd sy/ty, 4wd s-series. I'm using a tubular lower, c6 spindle, adjustable uppers, penske coil-overs, custom sway bar. I've done this for a number of reasons and one of them being the weight savings are substantial. So the idea of throwing this 10 lb hub on the outer most point of the suspension has me cringing a bit. I was hoping there was another option that maybe someone else had already discovered. So far though it seems to save anything more then 1 lb I'm looking at spending $800+. I know 1-2 lbs doesn't sound like a lot but it's creating a lot of torque in the position it sits and when my entire system only weighs maybe 75 lbs losing 2 lbs would be noticeable change I believe. I feel like I may be getting to the point of diminishing returns however.

These guys offer a few different solutions, although I'm not entirely sure they will suit your needs. 3 pages of parts, so see if they meet your needs. their aluminum hubs are on the first page, and a few custom applications on pages 2 and 3. I had talked with a guy there (Mike, if I remember correctly) and they can also do custom applications. I still need to call them back to see if they are interested in a GP for us. I was thinking going the same route since my truck is already a road race truck.

I'll be consulting with Filip from CorteX Precision Racing Technology. He did a lot of R & D for Griggs Racing and could build the spindles. I got to sit in Filip's car project Xecution in the Spectre Performance booth at this years SEAM show.

You might also look at a carbon/ceramic brake system to help lessen the unsprung weight. They are still very pricey though.
