Code what?
I'm working on a front suspension upgrade and brake upgrade with the sportmachines coilover kit and a corvette front brake upgrade supplied by my customer. I thought I'd share my dislike with my second run in with poorly fitting brake pads. I have worked on these brakes with several different pads and have found the delco and performance friction pads fit out of the box.
I do not recall the name of the other pad which was a new small company geared towards the police fleet vehicles. This same pad was fitted on a pursuit caprice and the results were the same as I found on these Hawk pads on my current customers truck. The pad fits so tight inside the caliper bracket shims it sometimes is even impossible to even install the pad. The coating they put on the backing plate is so thick and uneven it has to be removed. The backing plate must also be filed around the guide ear for the shim. Anyone not familiar with brakes who forces these pads in tight is just asking for brake drag/noise and premature wear. Just wanted to put this up to share my experience and keep someone from going through the same problem I have with these hawk pads.
I personally am not a fan of ceramic pads, I prefer the performance friction brand which are semi metallic. These pads are one of the most durable pads made for the pursuit vehicle industry. I have helped test and record data from two other pads and compared data. The performance friction blew away the ceramic aftermarket pad and delco pad. This has been several years ago, but thought I'd share. Enjoy, and feel free to share your pad experiences on this brake upgrade.
