Front Driveshaft & CV boot Replacement?

The front boot is gone. I need to get it replaced. However, when I called the dealer for a price for the boot, the man maintained that it was a one piece component. He told me it was $1900 :eek: WTF. I am wondering if he looked up the wrong part. That is strong money for a boot and a driveshaft.

What can I do? I saw another thread asking for an aftermarket replacement but no posts. If the front driveshaft and boot is 1900 bucks, looks like aftermarket is the way to go. I cannot imagine the cost for the boot and driveshaft as $1900. Any suggestions?

get one of the aftermarket front driveshafts. i think they can be had for 350 bucks, and they eliminate the pesky boot. otherwise, i think there is a shop around that will fix your boot.

For all practical purposes, the stock CV axle will do fine. Just get a new boot ($4-8) or get a replacement shaft ($59.95) and get it back going. Remember to repack the CV joint if you have the boot replaced. A replacement shaft will come with prepacked joints and boots already on.

BTW, the replacement CV Axle is A1 Cardone #60-1000.

ok, so now the question to clarify. are you talking about the axle that goes from the front differential to the hub? or from the transfer case to the front differential? I was talking about the later, mr hood was talking about the former.

Didn't even notice that you guys were talking about the propshaft......I guess with all this coilover talk lately and me always calling the front driveshaft the propshaft, I got confused.

Everyone calls them one or the other.

Where can I get this replacement boot for a couple bucks? Should I replace the driveshaft (prop shaft) or just the boot?

Hood was talking about the CV joint - I think. :-?

Personally, I'd replace the whole shaft. The stock design is marginal. I have heard of a replacement boot - but if it was run with out the boot for an extended period of time chances are its been destroyed. You can talk to a local 4x4 shop and see if they can make one for you that will eliminate the CV joint and go with a stronger U-Joint.
