front differential questions, more - need help!!

please - can anyone expand on fitment of 1997/newer front diffs to ours?
what are the physical differences? - are there any?
i am speaking of regular, not awd, four wheel drive pieces - i know they have a moveable arm or something to lock/unlock them - what's the deal here?
also, can they be made to kick in/out under load?
has anyone actually installed a regular diff with any success?
mine's toast; need to replace, need some confirmation on what will and what wont work.
thanks all
happy new year

you cannt kick it in or out under load....the shear forces are too great....and I';m not totally sure the late model cases will fit our early model frames....but the new ones do have a drain hole....finally!!!

You should be able to find a diff out of a Bravada,
I am not sure on the fitment of the new body style trucks.
They are not hard to rebuild if you get one that is sloppy.
300-400 is what they go for.
If you need help finding / building on let me know as I have done a few of these. 8)
