Fan temp turn on/off

I'm getting a chip burned to use the IC pump turn-on to control the electric fan on my truck now since I have an air to air intercooler.

I would like to know what everyone thinks a good fan on/off temp would be for 180* thermostat.

I was thinking 195 on/185 off.

Should this work ok?

I don't want the fans to run at cruising speed so thats why I think 195 on is better.

Any input?

So your chip burner should set the fan enable and fan disable MPH such that they won't kick on when you are on the highway.. but anyway I run a 195 degree stat and these are the settings I use to turn my fan on and off.. I'm pretty sure I found this info posted by Paul @ code59.org.. I put these settings in my bin and they have worked perfectly...

Mine are 165 on, 160 off with a 160 thermostat. My fan usually comes on and stay on because they don't have the cooling capacity in the warmer weather get the coolant temps down to 160. Only on cool days does my truck's fan cycle.

You do want to use iac step anticipation, my truck stalled at idle before I added some iac counts.

Sounds like the thermostat is closing on you. If your 160 t-stat "starts" opening at 160 then when the the fan cools all the way to 160 the t-stat is only cracked open. Try upping the turn-on to 175 and turn off 165.

I've been reading up since posting this and seems that too much fan cooling near the t-stat open temp will cause over-heating.

Who knows? I'm just reading it. I don't know this for fact.

It's not because of the thermostat closing. It goes above 165. It will be as high as 195 with A/C on. Most of he time it's in the 170-180 range unless it cool out. My mechanical fan use to always stay at 160 with 160 thermostat.

Do your fans cycle a lot? Or normally? How about with A/C on during summer?

How about cruising speed?

What is the MAX temp you've seen?

Also, is this the IC relay on the ECM your using?

The fans did not seem to cycle a lot over the summer(what little bit I got to drive it).. In the winter they almost never come on.

How about cruising speed?

They aren't allowed to come on at cruising speed. This part of the settings prevents that:

Fan Enable MPH Threshold (Lower) (KFANVSLK): 30 mph - Fans back on at 30mph
Fan Enable MPH Threshold (Higher) (KFANVSHK): 40 mph - Fans off at 40mph

That forces them to go off at 40 MPH and not come back on until I drop below 30..

What is the MAX temp you've seen?

Maybe 200.. But I've got a great big Griffin dual core 31x19 radiator and two really health electric fans behind it.

Also, is this the IC relay on the ECM your using?

I bought two big monster relays(1 for each fan).. There is no way the stock IC relay would last turning an electric fan on and off..

Yeah I have two weather pack 40 amp relays for my dual fan setup.

Did these settings work OK for you? They worked fine for me last summer and this summer the ECM won't command the fan on. If anyone has this stuff working and is willing to take a look at my settings I'd appreciate it.

Nevermind... My settings ARE working.. I have two electric fans.. One ECM controlled the other controlled by a thermal switch and a relay. The ECM one is working and there must be a problem with that custom 800x600 dash that I built not reporting that the fan is actually on...
