External Tranny filter.. Really needed?

Has anyone installed an External tranny filter? I'm wondering if it's really worth it to install it.

I ended up putting one of these on this summer. Mainly I wanted a place to put a trans temp sensor, but had also heard stories of how the stock filter can break apart. Whether that is true or not, hard to say.
I have the battery relocated on the Ty, and I found that there are pre-tapped out holes on the pass. side fender under the hood. I mounted it there just like how the OEM oil filter is on the other side.

I've got one and it does a much better job keeping the tranny fluid clean. For the $30 it cost, it was well worth the money.

Where did you mount the filter? I'm having a hard time finding a location that's out of the way.

I mounted mine beside the radiator on the passengers side. My battery is relocated, I don't have a fan shroud, no AC, etc... Needless to say I had plenty of options.
