EGR Plate

Pulled a code 32 and 35 from the Ty about a week ago (EGR stuff). Met up with Pete H. over the weekend, he instructed me to order a plate to replace the EGR valve. Seemed logical. Upon contacting some dealerships, though, they said that with the plate I will never pass emissions.

I'd like some input from the teachies in the group on whether or not my truck will pass emissions with the EGR removed? Thanks in advance,

that's pretty easy... remove the EGR and you will not pass a "visual" emissions inspection.. guarenteed

lol, man that sucks, here in texas we dont bother with emmisions, as of now. there are exceptions, houston i beleive is now doing that. what is to stop someone in houston to drive 20 miles and get it inspected in another town anyways? emissions sucks!

HEY NOW!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but NJ does not have a visual inspection last time I checked. You roll up, they put sniffer in tailpipe, it passes and you get sticker, or it fails and you get 30 days fix it.

Also, I think Mike wants to know about the general pros/cons of EGR removal. I recommended it and I know it made noticeable diff in my Sy.

anybody else wanna add?

i can tell you all this, i took my friends vortec truck's lower intake manifold yesterday so we can port it. well it took us about 1 and a half hours to clean all the nasty egr oil from the intake, we used simple green and super clean (purple bottle). man it was all concentrated around the egr valves. can you say restricitive, that stuff was in globs.

But, if you pull the EGR off you will still throw a code unless you have the EGR disabled on the chip. I heard someone makes a chip like that for Off-Road purposes only ;) I think his name is Brian Austin Green.

I disabled my EGR and I never get any codes. I just pulled the vacuum host off and plugged it with a screw. Maybe my truck is a freak or something but I'm still running stock everything.

Hey Pete... I simply stated that if you removed your EGR valve that you would not pass a "visual" inspection... whether or not NJ has a visual inspection is beyond me, but I know for sure if you try that in Cali or Anchorage you won't pass unless the guy drinks 6 packs or is your friend..

Are you going to be in anchorage this summer? I need to meet up with some fellow sytyers around the end of May. Also, do you have your egr blocked off? If so, has it made a difference? I'm just trying to get a feel for the home turf; Bozeman, MT is at 5000ft.

Anyone have an extra EGR they removed?
EGR vlv and EVRV module?

I gotta pass an AWD dyno sniffer and a visual.
Then again they have no F'n idea what they are lookin when you pop the hood.
They are state owned and run with our tax dollars and our registration costs are going up to help pay the untrained morons who work there.
They have a hotline for damaged cars claims and they do not allow cameras or video cameras in there. Trust me I have tried.
Then they let a 16 yr old kid drive your baby on an AWD with no straps or any means of retaining it in one spot.
<SoapboxMode="I Fuckin hate em">

Please donate you're unneeded EGR to the cause.
I am gonna beat these bastards once and for all.
email loeryder@sytyauthority.net for shipping instructions.
I'll pay you for shipping if need be.

Then I am going to cut down the tree that the birds who shit on my truck live in.

Hey Jason

I've been and now I'm back, didn't see your post before I left, sorry man.

I was in bozeman for about 15 minutes, just long enough to drop off a truck and buy a pop. Two guys in a regular cab truck for 29 hours round trip without a shower was just about enough for me :-? .

I felt sorry for my buddy, he's 6'8" and I have a regular cab truck, he was considering laying in the box for the last 6 hours, then it started snowing :D

Interesting EGR mod!!!

Interesting EGR mod!!!

After reading S10 planet.com website, I discovered that someone had modified the equivalent of the EGR blockoff plate so that there would be some flow through the center of the plate. Supposedly, this will prevent codes from going off...Check out the 4.3 tech section of th S10 planet...they drilled 5/32 in holes through the center of the blockoff plate...maybe this would be an option for those off us who get codes while driving.... Any feedback appreciated!

The ECM detects proper operation of the EGR valve by shutting it off while it's working. This will create a lean condition, which is then corrected. If the ECM detects this correction, it passes the test. The only real way to pass the test is for the EGR to actually do what it's supposed to. In other words, you couldn't block off the passages but leave the functioning valve there to trick it or something.

DataMaster will show the code, but only occasionally will the Check Engine light come on (which is the only time it limits boost).

The idea of an EGR "restrictor plate" might help some, but you'd still be getting at least some hot, nasty exhaust in your intake. Bit of a tradeoff I guess...
