for the rear I bought a simple loop from summit. I think it was less than 15 dollars.

I welded it to a cross member that holds the exhaust up, and I think holds the leaf spring suspension together. looks like this

I dont know any rules about them, other than they have to exist. I figured this was the lightest strongest cheapest way. I'm not worried about the front yet, but I should be....I think if I did it Id do the same idea as what I did for the rear, but sideways and welded to the the drivers frame rail. bit of slop for removability.

I like the idea, but isn't it supposed to "loop" the driveshaft, not just go underneath, or maybe it does, but i cant see it in the pics? I would be worried about it coming into the cab area if it breaks.

mines a bit goofy. the cross member itself is somewhat looping it (when the axle has weight on it it sits a bit higher, and therefore the shaft goes higher up in the loop). The other thing I have working to my advantage is the roll cage. I have 4 points of the cage meeting the body of the car right above that. If you look at it you will see a big white box that looks drawn on that floor pan, that is where my cage meets the body...my drive shaft would have to go through that.

My main fear isn't the shaft coming through the floor as much as it is the front of the shaft hitting the ground while driving.

I would be a little bit worried about having the driveshaft loop that far back, the reason for a loop is if the front joint breaks it will not allow the driveshaft to fall and pole vault the vehicle. That's why you never see them in the middle or rear of the vehicle. If the rear fails the shaft it just hits the ground and bends. You should buy another loop like you have and then weld them together to make an oval and space it off the trans crossmember or the torsion bar crossmember. I thought someone was making the Phil chivers loops so maybe do a search on the board. Good luck with the search :)

syclone 892 has a point although you have a good firm mounting point outback, it sort of defeats the purpose of how they are always seen upfront behind trans tailshaft.

Would be good to look into the rules of how its really supposed to be mounted as I to have never seen the rules on this either yet ive always mounted mine were listed or right behind trans (of course this is on 2wd vehicles)

I checked it when I mounted it. Disconnected from the trans Kitts only about 4 inches lower than the case, well above the ground. That was also my concern lol. I'm surprised then stock setup hasn't snapped yet

Mythbusters proved that to be busted. Broken driveshafts don't pole vault vehicles.

While it may be possible they couldn't make it happen, I have seen it happen. Plus the main reason to install one is for nhra rules which states the same thing

Also if you Google nhra driveshaft loop you can download the nhra rule book it gives you the spec, how to correctly make a loop and that it needs to be within 6 inches of the front u-joint.

Anyway I mainly posted because I wanted to make sure the original poster knew just incase his was too far back to do any good.

Personally I wouldnt even install one if it didn't meet the rules as that's the only reason to install it so it would be a waste of time.. but that's just my opinion
