Drag Radial?

I'm going to buy new tires and was wondering if its worth it to buy a drag radial over a sticky tire. Keep in mind I probably only put 2k miles or less but when the Sy is out its more than likely being raced. I guess what I'm saying is: should I go with the drag radials or sticky street tires? I'm finding that the drag radials are cheaper than the street tires.

What do you guys think?

I personally don't like the thought of running weak side walls on the fronts of trucks like the drag radials have, although the 100 type compound is great for hooking. I am presently waiting for Nitto's new tire 555 extreme 2 to come out in a 315-35-17 series. They have it out in the 275-40-17 series but you will need the 315's if you are going to 10 inch rims in the back.

The make up of the tire is the auto cross sidewall frimness of the 555 and the 100 compound of there 555r drag radial. it will be a great tire for us that don't put a lot of miles on, but want to hook at the track or on the street.

Last time I talked to the Nitto folks they said Feb or March for release.

What if you put Nitto 245/50/16 (or even better, 255/50/16s) on the rears and used a regular radial on the front? Assuming the tire revs per mile is in the neighborhood of 811 or whatever, I can't see this being a problem. Anyone know for sure?

I've decided that I'm going with Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position tires (245/45/16). Sounds like most use reg. rubber for the drag strip.

Interesting to see if your idea would work Tookycat.

the bfg 255 tires are the best for the stock wheels. The nittos dont work as well.

No other "sticky" street tire will compare to a drag radial. For the strip the drag radials work really well. The downsides on the street is they wear fast, and in the rain they suck. You will have to play with tire pressure to see what gets you the best mph, and best 60ft.
