I am trying to find the difference between a Slyclone 700r4, and a regular car transmission. How different is the tailshaft, if any, what is the spline count?
Can you put a Slyclone trans. in a car, or does the out put shaft and tailshaft different, and can they be changed easy??? Thanks guys.

well specifically between the Syclone/Typhoon transmissions and any other TH700R4 is the valvebody, that is totally SyTy specific.

The major difference between "car" 700R4 and SyTy / "truck" 700R4s is indeed the tailshaft housing and the output shaft. Cars and 2 Wheel Drive trucks have a longer output shaft and a completely different housing where as the 4x4 Trucks and SyTys have a shorter shaft and a tailshaft housing which allows the transfercase adaptor to be bolted up.

Is it easy to change.....NO. Basically the whole trans needs to be pulled apart to replace the output shaft.

The cases are also different, not exactly sure how, but the "heavy duty" truck cases and the SyTy cases have a large "K" cast into the bellhousing section, I believe its on the right side.

Along with those things, there are a handful of other parts that the SyTy borrowed from other car lines, like the servos and I believe some of the valves from the Corvette, but there are better aftermarket options now days anyway.

EDIT: I believe the output shaft spline count is 27

FYI/FWIW...

4wd full size truck cases and S10 4wd cases are the same except the S10 case only uses four bolts to hold the cast TC cover on where as the full size cases have six bolts holding it on. Looks like GM lopped off the upper most flange where the TC cover bolts on for clearance in the S trucks (just a guess on my part) so there is only enough flange left to drill/tap 4 holes. Both full size and S trucks use the "K" case so if youre not particularly fond of the TC cover then you can use either case.

2wd cases have the TC cover held on by four self tapping screws and the flange it bolts to is a lot thinner than the K case but other than that you could swap a 2wd case for a 4wd case with no issues IMO (yes, Ive done it).
