Deep tranny filter problem

Frustration... Got the deep tranny pan from gm and got the gm filter.
Now the darn filter won't fit.
Here are my part numbers filter=24208576
pan =24209295
I though I had the right stuff but my mech. says the filer won't mount up inside the tranny. Do I have the wronge filter or do I use the original filter? Won't the original filter hang up a couple of inches above the bottom of the pan?

Thanks
Rod

donno about the part number, but did you make sure to get the seal from the neck of the old filter out? It tends to stick in there, preventing you from mounting the filter properly

Make sure you got a filter for a 4L60 (TH700R4). Because, the filters for the 4L60E trannies will NOT fit. The tube portion of that filter won't fit into the hole (tube is too big). The filters are not interchangable, despite what the knucklehead behind the parts counter may say.

This is in no intent to flame.

Sometimes when you pull the old filter off the rubber seal stays up in the tranny. This seal fits around the filter neck. You probably have seen it on the new filter. If the old one is left in the case the new filter with another seal will not go into the case and seat properly. Check to make sure you removed the old seal. Might have to take a pick up in there to get it out. Be carefull with the pick though. Dont scratch any bores or anything. hth.

not it

not it

Already checked that. The old one came right out. There is a difference between the 4l60e and the 4l60. Ordered the one for the 4l60 and trying it tomorrow. Had an idea...what if I use the original filter (new of course) and put a bigger magnet in the bottom of the pan to lift it up. would that work?

Thanks

thats right the E filter will not fit into a non E trans....our 700's have a smaller inlet in the pump for the filter.

The GM deeper transmission pan doesn't have provisions for supporting the filter? Oh I'm sorry, I forgot they are the same guys who didn't put drainplugs with a magnetic pickup on transmission pans either :roll: ... If ya wanna spend more money, I would recommend a beefy cast aluminum one made by TCI. It has cooling fins on the bottom and a drainplug with a magnetic pickup. You also get to use the regular "new style" filters too. Have one on my syclone and 100% pleased with it-no leaks ever. HTH's

That did it. Got the correct filter for the 4L60 not E, and it worked perfectly. You guys saved me a lot of hassle. Thanks
