Hey im looking to turbo my 96 olds bravada

i want to make my own kit as money is a big issue.
ive seen bolt on kits that run 8lbs of boost to the stock ecu.
can i run 8 lbs of boost threw stock everything and still be decently realiable?
sooner or later im going to rebuild the engine and upgrade pistons and rods.
what parts can i get just as a minimum. i want to do it as cheap as possible.
heres my parts list so far

t4 turbo
piping for custom exhaust manifolds
electric fan
intake piping

also.. is it worth it to run an intercooler?

any help is apreciated. thanks, derek

Use stock sy ty stuff, run 6 lbs, get your vehicle TUNED, and yes run an intercooler....

you'll be safe for a while til you try and turn up the boost....with your awd system I don't know if its the same a typhoon or not, you might have some clearance issues, might not....2wd trucks dont when they run the typhoon manifolds....I'm embarking in the same deal with my 02....there are several threads over at s10forum.com that really could clue you in nicely with how to do this turbo setup

Re: converting a Bravada

mach performance= junk....those headers crack after not too many miles...s10forum.com has a lot of people with bad dealings with mach and me personally had a VERY bad dealing with him....I'm surprised they are still in business.....

Tip #1 Don't waste your time, sell the Olds and buy a TY.

I'm starting to sound like a broken record but you can have CHEAP or RELIABLE. It's very difficult to have both.:2cents:

While it may seem like the cheap route (ie based on prices of turbo), its will be cheaper in the long run to use the stock SyTy turbo setup (turbo/manifold/DP/Turbo/oil & Coolant lines). Fabrication expense will kill you using non specific syty.

As for the fueling/timing side of thing, you have to check the s10forums, imagine you need FMU and some way to retard timing underboost. I could see this project easily running $1300-1500 before an intercooler.

You don' neccessarily need an electric fan to have a turbo, but it might make it easier to route everything.

Sometimes it's difficult to even get one!

Re: converting a Bravada

I don't think it would be too hard using stock sy/ty stuff....a few people at s10forum.com have done it and I just bought all my parts to do it....time patience and research....find the deals on stock syty stuff and work at it a piece at a time, collect everything and put it together....FMU and tune is a must, MSD box with retard function would help along with the proper tune....it shouldn't be too bad though

SOMETIMES people want to be different!!!!!! its not always worth having a sy-ty

I just meant it in a sarcastic way.Buy and do whatever you want.My thought was these trucks are sooo picky to begin with that just for headache reasons and pocketbook reasons ou might as well buy a TY fix all the design flaws and be ahead of the game. Not to mention have a Olds with 5K in it and it not be worth it in the long run.But hey some of us have 2-3 times what our Sy/Ty's are worth in them.To each his own.

Re: converting a Bravada

Well, the newer vortec engines aren't as picky as the sy ty engines were....with the syty parts and turbo setup, a little time and patience and using EFI live to tune with the newer trucks IMO could be more reliable and durable on a low boost setting (8 lbs max with the csfi fueling system in most cases) than our sy ty predecessors.....just my opinion though....and besides....unless its in a awd tug boat bravada the 2wd crew is never going to get traction....
