Re: converter help

I have never seen numbers on a converter as far as stamped. I know some have service tags but as time goes on they fly away to oblivion. I know there is a way to tell the stall of one when it is cracked open but that is a science I don't understand.

Also, I believe the 2400 range is stock for our trucks

Re: converter help

Brake stall and flash stall are two different things. If it's a 2400 stall it should flash to 2400 before the truck moves. Easiest way to tell is role down the road and stomp it, where it flashes and then moves is typically where it is set to stall. You cannot usually brake stall to the flash speed either. It's usually easiest to command a gear and try it too.

Loose and tight is also another term, but it is usually indicative of the methods used by a manufacturer to establish a stall. One 3000 stall from one company can feel totally different than a 3000 stall from another company. I've driven cars with 3000 stalls that you couldn't even tell were in there until stomped (tight) and others that felt like you needed a lot of throttle before it moved (loose). A reman converter with stall modifications typically feels loose compared to say an ATI/Yank etc. that build all their converters from scratch.

Re: converter help

what color is the converter ? might help in determining what brand it is. starting with a new converter might be a good option so you know what you have . a 9/11 unit is a good option if all out performance is what your after . if budget is a issue a good choice is the hughes unit 22-30 . have ran one in my daily with zero issue's and has an advertised stall of 3000 rpm . very streetable and work's well with smaller turbo's .

Re: converter help

A stock torque converter would probably be fine. If wouldn't loosen the aftermarket converter you have up any more.

Imo I think you might have a issues dialing in your truck with an off the shelf chip and Vortec heads/cam.
