Comp Cam

Is anyone running a comp cam in there motor and if so what part number do you know I wanna see if mine that I just got is going to work with my stock motor. Please let me know thanks Eddie

there are dozens of ppl running comp cams.....if you have a stock motor and are not goin to change the valves springs you could prob only go with 400 or so lift at the most...

I have the Comp 422 cam (500/510) and a set of Vortec heads. Due to an engine problem, everything is apart including the heads....... as I bought the 772 heads "complete" I assumed that aftermarket springs were used. When I pulled 'em apart, many of the inner dampners came out in pieces! Now, I seriously doubt that they were anything but stockers.

Bottom line: If ya buy a cam, BUY the whole damn kit! Do it once and do it right. <------- just an opinion.

Why are you doing a cam on the stock motor?

What are you going to do for calibration?

What are the rest of the parts in the combination?

Putting an aftermarket camshaft in a stock motor without the right parts & calibration will be an absolute nightmare.

I needed a cam shaft so I bought a aftermarket one and I dont know if it will work out ok that is why I am looking for help I dont know much about it so if you guys can help me with it it would be great. I have a comp cam and need to know what else I need to go with it to make it owrk fine in my motor. What do you mean by calibration?? Please let me know thanks Eddie

Roland & Eddy,

Roland, did U buy your Vortecs from ATR, who I think has
McCoy do the machine work ? I did and assumed that they
upgraded the springs. Now I better check.

I would imagine that the stock springs R real weak, like the
GN ones - only 75-85 Lbs. I should think we would want to
go w around 100-120 Lb springs so we can get some RPM.

I am running stock heads but I think I am goin to change the valve springs in them while it is apart. I just dont know if this cam is going to work with my setup what do u guys think?? Eddie
