Re: clicking noise

Hi Strada,
If the clicking is roadspeed dependant rather than engine speed dependant, the clicking could well be from your transfer case if you have replaced your UJ's. It could be the chain in the T/case thats either very worn or very dry! (or both) Try checking the oil level in the transfer case, or better still just try draining it and refilling with Dexron IIE or Dexron III ATF. If when you take out the drain plug (Use a 3/8" Square drive extension) and some black burnt smelly fluid trickles out you have probably found your problem. If it is like that, it will only get worse, you need to do an overhaul, you dont need to ask me how I know. You will need a new chain and seals at the minimum, the planetary carrier may have suffered and the V/C may be bad too. Are your front tyres chirping/grabbing when you are on full steering lock, particulary in reverse?
You might get by refilling the T/Case with ATF and maybe draining & refilling again to flush it out if you have caught it in time. (Assuming this is the problem). The good news is that most of the parts are still available, but not particularly cheap. used T/Cases come up on here from time to time if its toast.
Hope this helps with your diagnosis.
