Well, as one last-ditch effort I decided to change the trans fluid, hoping it might bring the trans back. Dropped the pan and saw nasty brownish fluid, although the filter didn't look too bad and there weren't any chunks in the pan. New filter, gasket, red bottle of LubeGard and 4 1/2 quarts of fluid, and I crossed my fingers. Nothin. Trans is toast, I wish I would have changed the fluid as soon as we got the truck.
My point: Whenever you buy a truck, change the trans fluid ASAP along with the oil, its cheap insurance.
