Cant break Tranny

So Ive had this spare trans sitting around for about 6 months now and just got done rebuilding it about a month ago. I thought my trans was starting to slip real bad but as it turns out I was just really low on fluid. I want to break this damn thing in an honest way (race against a supercar would be nice) but it just doesnt want to let go. It leaks at the front seal and gets all over my rear glass when I get on it. Its driving me nuts and want to be able to justify the PITA swap. Any suggestions? :lol:

Quite being a baby and just pull the freaking thing out, I wouldn't want it pissing all over me anyway. Then send it out to be diagnosed, because inquiring minds want to know how the hell you beating on it that much don't break it.

I don't know bud, if it's leaking I'd pull it out just because of that, but I look for any excuse to rip things apart, thats the number one reason I bought a Sy. They said " You'll have to work on it all the time! " and I said " Ohhh sign me up! "

Five 15lb launches in a row will shatter the rear planets....least it did for me.

keep it and rebuild it for when you trash the new tranny or sell it. 700r4s aint cheap and as long as you got somewhere to keep it out of the way it cant hurt to have another ready to go in . :2cents:

Five 15lb launches in a row will shatter the rear planets....least it did for me.

I only needed 2 12lbs when I did the 1st - 2nd bump shift :lol:

keep it and rebuild it for when you trash the new tranny or sell it. 700r4s aint cheap and as long as you got somewhere to keep it out of the way it cant hurt to have another ready to go in . :2cents:

just tell your wife its toast so you can get a new one. My wife thought I was doing that then I took her for a ride and she asked what happened to the firm shift. Then I looked over at her suburban thinking..."does a suburban have a 4l80e???"

Actually, it is available with the 80E. But it depends upon what year & model suburban it is. Later model 2500's were equipped with the 80E either behind the 6.0 or the 8.1. But the 1500's still got the 60E....


Personally, I'd be getting ready to yank it and replace it. I wouldn't be out trying to break it. My luck is that something else would go instead (tcase or a driveshaft for example) and that the trans would still be ok, and there'd be a bunch of other stuff to fix.

Or trying real hard to break the trans, something stupid would happen and light off all the ATF that is coating the underside of the truck, and it'd burn to the ground. Personally, watching my truck burn is not high on my todo list.

i am in the same boat (new slush-box on the tranny jack). i boost launch mine multiple times daily (440 hp) trying to break it and so far no luck. its got about 60K and i'm the third owner. i installed a $200 rebuild kit when i first bought the truck even though it looked new inside. i wonder if the guys who break them are running a big enough tranny cooler.

smoked mine and my trans never went over 210.But mine was due to a bad tv cable and the pressure being all f-uped.

Seriously though, I rebuilt a trans and installed it in the truck previously and I was just tearing down the dead one to see what kind of carnage there was. I backed the truck outside so Id have more room to work. My too small garage sucks.

Ive only had the tranny a year and a half. A good 6 months of that it was not driving and I havent driven it nearly as much as I did last summer. Ive only put 10K on it since May. Im just going to swap it out anyways cause last night I was out racing and it started acting funny. It felt like I had no first gear or something then it wouldnt up shift here and there. A little too scary for me to be driving it around like that. Ofcourse i drove it to my moms house this morning and it never skipped a beat but Im sure its on it s way out.
