Cal CHP

Not a kill in the normal sense of the word but an adrenaline rush nonetheless. Coming home from racing last night doing 58 or 9 in a 55, in a construction zone, NO shoulder either side. 2 lanes and K rail on both sides, that's it. Slow lane is full and slowing because of an on ramp just ahead. Hear siren, look in mirror and CHP is on my rear code 3. I know he's not after me, I've got no place to go, K rail left, traffic right, so what does a self respecting Sy owner do? Punch it of course. Up to 80 in what seems like a half second, pass all the traffic, get in the right lane, slow back down, and let him pass. My only hope is he's thinking "what the heck is a Syclone?"

Re: Cal CHP

Negatory, but I've heard it works. Turned out he was going to a police-action up the road about a mile. I knew he wasn't after me because of the location and code 3. If he was after me all he needed was a red light. No place to go but forward anyway, lots of room about 1/4 mile further on.

This gets me thinking. Has anyone done up a Ty (or Sy) to look like a black and white? I've seen the DARE GN and a bunch of other cars painted up like police or Hwy Patrol...wondering if a Ty has ever been dressed that way...lightbar, shield, etc.

Truckless. For now.

There's a D.A.R.E. Syclone... and I'm pretty sure there was a patrol Ty for sale last year.

Re: Cal CHP

As an aside to that there is an older Nova as a full dress Novato (Ca) Police car that races at Infineon. It's a trailer car, obviously. Put together a few years back by the local high school I understand.

Re: Cal CHP

No police force could afford to keep a sy/ty strong and running

Re: Cal CHP

It has always been my assumption that code 3 meant lights AND siren. Code 2 was lights only. Code 1 would be just go fast? Someone here can verify I'll bet...

Re: Cal CHP

I checked with a sheriff and he didn't have that list but, his short answer was, as described above, in effect anytime they exceed the speed limit they're supposed to have lights and siren on. I prefer 7 myself...

Pics of DARE Sy?

There are pics floating around I think....

I actually have the poloroids pics of the truck when it was recovered from being stolen and stripped and reVINed to an 85 (?) S10...and when it was almost put back together with missing pieces of cladding that GM couldnt find. The officer who got the truck and worked on it sent them to me years ago.
