Re: Broken range selector shaft
I think it's a 5/8" nut on the inside to break loose. You'll also need a 1.5" wide file. What happens is right beside the rooster comb on the side opposite the nut, the manual shaft(that's the name for the part that broke) "mushrooms" out. Once you get the nut backed off and you slide the shaft over a little, it will get too tight to push out. Don't hammer or pry it out or you will enlarge the hole in the case and make a loose fit on the new shaft. Take a minute or two and rotate the manual shaft and keep the file flat on the shaft and work you way around the shaft until you can push it out by hand. Use a small prybar 1/2" or a pair of channel locks and pull the old metal clad seal out. Use a socket and hammer the new seal in and put some vasoline on the rubber part. The other shaft will slide back in easily. If your salvaging the shaft out of another trans, take your time and remove it the same way you did the broken one. If your good shaft has the nut rusted to it, heat it up with a propane torch and then spray PB blast on it and let it sit a minute and it'll come right off.
