big time tranny problems

For the past week when I've started my truck it's lurched forward right on start up. Today at school I went to put it in park and guess what...no park to be found. Neutral, nope not there either. Reverse, in the "D" position. And driving home (only a mile) I only had 1st gear. The shift linkage feels really bad. I took a quick peek under my truck and I didn't see anything hanging, but I haven't jacked it up to look at the cable yet. I don't know much about transmissions, but I plan on checking the fluid level/color, inspecting the cable and taking apart my center console to see what's going on. Also my gauges went dead at the same time. Would there be a fuse that is linked? Amazingly I have a week off between quarters and I can put some work into my truck. So any guidance/ideas would help me out considerably. Thanks

sounds like you have the rangle selector misaligned or bent somehow on the bottom of the trans.

For people who may have a similar problem and use the search feature: It turns out that a C-clip came off my shifter cable that attached it to the shifter assembly, basically there was no tension on the cable to change the range selector (which I checked and it moved in an out of all the gears fine).

I had a problem like that....but my transmission parts all fell into the trans pan. I turned my tranny into mush.
