Battery relocation for the Typhoon

Hi guys. This weekend i moved my battery into the rear of the Ty. I searched through the posts here looking for some way of getting the ground wire outside to the frame WITHOUT drilling any holes but was unsuccessful. So this is what i did. I ran a piece of 1/0 from the rear of the Ty down to where the driver's side seatbelt main bolt is. It's a big torx screw. Then underneath the Ty where the seatbelt bolt goes through the body of the Ty i attached another piece of 1/0 and then bolted it to the frame. It seems to be working well for me. I don't like putting holes in the Ty so this is what i came up with. If you guys don't like the arcticle delete it. I just figured i would throuw it out there. Here's some pics.

This is the general view of where the ground goes inside.

This is the closeup. What's cool about this is that you can put the cover back on so you can't see anything.

This is the view fron underneath where the seatbelt bolt goes through. I put another nut on to hold my new cable.

This is the view where the ground wire terminates. It comes from the seatbelt bolt. It's about 1ft away from the seatbelt bolt. I sanded it down with a dremel and then threw it on.

Hope this helps someone. O my positive wire was ran under my carpet and then out side in the front. Nothing special there.

just curious about the positive cable....

did you run it trough a grommet in the firewall to get to the outside or did you run it through the door jamb? . ( I am allways amazed how often i see this kinda thing come into my shop from the kids on the street. (fire waiting to happen).

I assume the battery is INSIDE.

Is it in a box with a vent to the outside?

My pos cable is ran through the firewall and is wrapped in foam then in electrical tape and then is placed inside the plumbers pipe foam (bike pad stuff). My battery is not in a box because it's pending the stereo install wich is next. It will be worked into the design.

I like to use hidden bolts like that for grounds too. You really shouldn't need to run a wire from the floorboard to the frame though. Your floorboard is a lot bigger than any 4ga wire. =) But it will only help, especially if there are any iffy grounds elsewhere...

Random thought, what kind of tires are those? They remind me of my SZ50's...

it is very simple and doesn't require running heavy gauge wire into the cab.

I only ran 1/0 positive and negative because my amp takes a 1/0 input and output. When you pull postive power with any size cable you need to make it equal all the way around.

If there was enough room under the right side behind the rear tire. A person could get a battery tray simular to those use on race cars and bolt it to the frame then run the positive in grommets bolted to the frame away from any potential hazzard. Then just run the ground to the frame. This would allow you to be safe from any harmful fumes that could get inside the cab from one mounted inside. I will take a look and may consider this myself since I want to put a shorter turbo pipe and K&N filter on board.

Yeah, I forgot about the tail pipe being there. It could be done I think in front on the RR wheel, your right a small battery would need to be used. And a side mounted battery only. I thought I was on to something.

someone on here is using a battery that's half the size of a normal one. They have it in the front under the stock turbo. I am doing a stereo in mine so unfortunatly it's of no use to me but maybe for you?

With the height thickness of the frame I think a combination could be found. A creative mind wouldn't hurt either.
