bad vibration.

new to the ty seen but found out why last guy dumped it, i have a BAD vibration above about 70mph and on deceleration i can fell a vibration between 35 mph and down to 10 mph, any ideas guys ? did touque converter , COMPLETE front end , all new u-joint and prop shaft rebuild , had front rims sent out and straightened with two new tires. findin this vibration is gonna cost me more than the typhoon. please help, new to the typhoon world and ready to bail.....lol.

I suggest you check out the transfer case. other than the propshaft which you said u replaced but did you ever try driving without it? maybe the new one isn't balancedd properly. rear driveshaft? rear wheels/tires?

i had the rears spun on a balancer and they looked to be straight. i was wondering about the transfer case, heard it was diffrent from the regular s-10 chain driven unit but im not familiar with the typhoon case. never really took a good look at the transfer case output, will it be ok to drive without the front prop shaft ? i must get it up to 70-80mph to get it to vibrate ? dont have to worry about the mounting flanges sailing off ? dont laugh, new to the typhoon world, love the performance , just tryin not to gernade anything.

ya u can drive without the front propshaft just dont do it if you dont have to. it's fine for testing purposes but when your done put it back in. long term damage can result. and no the flanges will not come off. they are held on by typical center nuts.

You can take it to a GM dealer that has an EVA and knows how to use it. Just put in tire size what gear ratio and final drive and it will tell you where the vibration is coming from. I used it a while ago on a trail blazer it said it was coming from the propshaft, and if you hook it up to a timing light it will show where to put weights to correct it.

If you do decide to take the front prop shaft out, USE THE PARKING BREAK. If you park without it, your truck will roll.

Forget the dealer... Waste of time..

When you messed with the wheels and had the tires dismounted did the place that remounted/balanced them use the "hub centric" type adaptors? The previous owner might not have had the balance job done correctly and that could be your source of vibration. Its happened numerous times to ppl on here.

hey myclone, thanks for the help , will look into rebalancing also, my friend has a 2000 z28 and were going to try to swap tires and wheels if the taking out the drive shaft doesnt work. the problem i have doesnt seem to go away at higher speeds either, 70-80-90-100 , seems the faster you go the worse it gets, doent tire balance problems lessen at even higher speeds, and then there is also the low speed vibration while declerating, like i said im new to the typhoons but it doesnt feel right. were talking at 90mph i was watching bolts rattle out of my dash board. no small vibration here. id think a vibration this bad would be easy to find.

Youre prolly fighting multiple probs so.... IMO I would swap tires/wheels with your bud first since thats usually easiest then take it for a spin. If the prob didnt change at all with just swapping tires/wheels then at least you know your stockers are prolly balanced correctly.

If the vibration changed but didnt go completely away then Id leave my buds tires/wheels on the truck and yank the front drive shaft and go for a drive. If the vibration disapears then you will know its a combo of the stock wheel/tire balance and prolly the front drive shaft.

Its just a process of elimination that will prolly take part of an afternoon to narrow down what the prob is.

thanks myclone, look like you got my sunday all mapped out for me... lol. thanks again for all your help, new to the web sita and typhoons, but this web site rocks, nice bunch of people all you sy/ty owner , always there to help out a newbe in trouble. im tryin to get this thing to go straight down the road smoothly so i can think about doing some mechanical upgrades like a/a intercooler , maybe bigger turbo. again thanks.. let me know if you get any more ideas.

well i yanked the front prop shaft took it out on the highway and i acted the same but not as violent of a vibration, id say its about half as bad as it was but still there and still very noticable. what are the chances pf it being in my transfer case ?

I'm not sure that I've seen a xcase go bad in this manor. usually it's a violent death, but anything is possible. try swapping the wheels around as dave suggested and see if that fixs the other half of the vibs. might also wanna try turning your rear driveshaft 180 degrees.

don't suppose you've done a tune up at all have you? new plugs/cap/rotor/wires? i remember when i burnt a wire on the downpipe and the truck shook like crazy. not sure that's related to the problem you're having, but might as well do it just in case.

will try swappin tires this weekend. was also suggested by someone to check the differential fluids to see if there low or have metal in them. as for a tune up yes right when i got it i did plugs/cap/rotor/fuel filter and put a walbro fuel pump in it. what fluid goes in these diffenrtials ? is it just regular 80w90 weight gear oil ? i figure if im gonna do it ill just pull the covers and change fluid also.
