B&M shift kits?

i was remarking to a friend of mine about how my tranny seems to have lost its hard shift, and he suggested a B&M shift kit. im not sure if my real problem is just a bad TV cable adjustment or whatever.

im just curious if anyone ever used one of these shift kits? if so, what are the pros/cons?

i love how our trucks shift hard, i wouldnt mind if it shifted even harder. but if the shift kit is not a good idea; what can i do to get the tranny to shift harder? without doin anything major, or spending thousands

I would adjust the TV cable to see what that does for you first. As far as shift kits, TransGo seems to be the preffered one.

most of the shift kits on the market redrill a few holes in the seperator plate and give you a different spring for the PR valve train. well the stock syty holes are larger than the kit and the stock syty spring is also stiffer. so you would actually be going backwards. get a servo and block the 1-2 acculator and you'll be more than happy.

first adjust the cable.
then get a tie down strap, or poly motor mounts.

my syclone shifts so good with the poly motor mounts, i cant believe they didnt come like this from the factory.

my typhoon was shifting really mushy, realized later it was a broken motor mount.

I agree with waller, for kits, you just cant beat the stock valve body and stock plates, i had a shop put a B&M in mine when i rebuilt it, and its was shifting like absolute crap, a day later the tranny burnt up because of low fluid pressure because the holes on the plates were too small, we went back to stock gm plates and body, blocked the 1/2 actuator, put a lighter governor, ratcheting sprag, and a vette servo, and now it chirps all 4 wheels(not really, but it shifts DAMN hard), so make your shifts harder with the actuator and servo, dont touch the plates

also, maintaning harder shifts is all about keeping your fluid pressure high, so you might want to pick up some better boost valves, i think hartman sells some valves that are .525 of an inch, i think the stockers are .497, also might want to try some lubegaurd

ok thanks for all the info guys!

ill check my motor mounts and see whats up with those.

BTW, whats a ballpark figure to do the servo, and block the actuator?

I good servo will run you $80. and it's much better than the corvette one. and blocking the acculator will cost you 20 cents

that sounds good! what kind of labor is involved? i dont need to pull the tranny do i??? anyone type out some easy install steps?

the servo is located on the pass side of the tranny and is held in by a large c clip. remove that and the servo will come out. the Accum block is done by removing the piston and spring assm from the bore tapping then and installing a 1/4 20 pipe plug in the hole. this works for both the 1-2 and 3-4 accum

the only one you should get is the one by superior transmission. it's called the super servo. it comes with all directions.
