I'm ordeing new axle seals for my truck and there are too part numbers listed. C code for made in USA and K code for made in Canada. This may be a silly question but it's one with an answer I haven't come across yet. How do I know which code to order? Would that be in the Vin, or on the rear? TIA

Is this for a full size GM?

C codes are 2wd truck

K codes are 4wd trucks

Giving them the VIN should help out.

Matt where are you ordering them from? You want OE ones? I will order them today. Out trucks are S/T not C/K.
C-2wd S-2wd
K-4wd T-4wd

There are two different styles of rear axle on our trucks. One style uses a seal with a flange on it, the other style sits in a machined recess in the axle so it doesn't need the flange. Someone posted one time that there is a stamp on the axle, but I couldn't find it on mine. If you don't need to order them right away, the easiest way may be to pull an old seal out and take it to the auto parts store. The one near me had both in stock, and it is easy to see the difference between the two when you compare them.

I just went to Advance Auto a couple days ago to buy new axle seals for the Ty. I will be starting the LS1 Rear conversion soon and I just wanted to be prepared. I bought the K-Code seals made in US. I didn't know their was a difference. I guess when I pull the axles I'll just take old seals with to get the correct ones.

I'm ordeing from advance because I have a $20 off if I spend $50 promo code. I'm doing my c5 vette brakes in the back and I'm going to change seals while I'm at it. I'm also ordering a diff cover and gasket. I understand the difference between C/K and S/T but that's not what I'm refering to. There's are 2 different real axle codes for our rear differentials and I need to determine how to tell which I have so I can order the correct ones. I have till the end of the month before the code expires

All kidding aside, the US p/n is for our trucks.

I'll trust your judgement! I couldn't find the axle code.. I'm sure I will when I sand the housing down and paint it but that wont be for a week or two. 50/50 shot and I'm going US

The reason you could not find it is because the1992 S truck axle code is located on the front of the DRIVER'S side (LH) axle tube. The fourth character indicates where the axle was manufactured and which seal the axle uses.

An example of the manufacturing plant codes are as follows

SNF C 001 1 ......... Buffalo New York........seal GM 26029137 (or equal)
SNF K 001 1 ......... St Catherine Canada...seal GM 26029139 (or equal)

If you cannot find the code, buy both seals and return the one that does not fit for a credit or refund.
