AutoMeter 2286 trans Manifold

ok after searching i found some good install pointers, but the issue i am having is the in/out fittings only thread in about 3 threads, curious if anyone else noticed this? it doesnt feed in more then that unless i crank down on it but do not want to do that, 3 threads enough? also the the sensor adapter on the bottom only screws in less then 2 threads, wtf! lol

Re: AutoMeter 2286 trans Manifold issue?

Three threads is pretty marginal in my book. I always tap holes for fittings like those deeper to have more "purchase" since brass is pretty soft. It also has the benefit of placing the sender closer to the fluid stream to get more accurate/quicker readings. Of course, you have to have NPT (National Pipe Thread) taps on hand for such endeavors...

You don't just "bury the tap" when you do it either. You tap until you feel resistance and turn it in a turn or two (be sure to use WD-40 or thread cutting oil for lubricant) and then back it out test fit the fitting/sender. Do this until you get the depth that you want. Don't get to carried away though. Sometimes you can obstruct the passage that you are trying to "read" with the sender if you install it too deep. A bench with a vice makes quick work of this type of job.

appreciate the response guys, after checking it, the in/out fittings on both sides barely go in 2 threads, so i will pick up a tap and try it, will need 2 sizes one for the sensor as well, man the sensor goes barely one thread lol never thought anodizng would do that. thx

Davep eventually yes i would like to go in the pan, untill i have time to do that i figure i can get a rough idea of temps, appreciate the insight.

From the looks of your setup, you are going to need a 1/8 X 27 tap for the sender and a 3/8 X 18 tap for your bushing.
