new atr headers have arrived... so the question is To get these to last and look good

1 do i get them triple chrome plated?

2 paint them and use what kinda paint?

3 leave em bare

Seems to me chromeis the way to go. Might cost a bunch more but then they will last the longest... impress the crap outta onlookers too! This truck is as clean as youll ever see.... gotta get around to using the digital camera i bought the wife and post a few shots.

They will get HOT.. so they will discolor. Chrome may weaken it as well, and they are prone to crack.

I'd talk to a local welder/fabricator, tell him to go through them and fix any suspect welds, then send them out to Jet Hot Coatings for their super high temp rough black coating. It is the only coating that will stand up as far as I am concerned.

Do coat them
Then start saving money for the next set of headers
Spark plug wires will burn every two days even if you protect them by every possible way(silicon hose )

You could have them "electro-polished".
They run them through a process that basically etches the surface to a mirror finish. Mirror finished stainless is awesome to look at.
But yes, they will still dis-color.

Where did you buy her? Is she any good? Are there more wifes for sale? Will they trade? If I get few, will I get whole sale price?

Sorry, I just had to comment on that.

I think you need to work on your tune, might have excessive EGT's.

My Sy has had ATR headers on for the past 6-8 months and has no problems burning wires.

I had 1450*F when traveling with the KB superchip
Now i got lower temps with the Fast but no headers(broken everywhere) :(
I know Randy had the same problem......... also many more....

Ed, I have the ATR headers on my Sy and had them Jet Hot Coated first. Never had a problem with burnt wires or such. And find the quality pretty good. The sound with the ATR exhaust and cat delete is pretty good. Now, as far as the nicest Sy in the state..... you'll have to see mine first. It still smells new inside and has absolutely no rust anywhere including the suspension. I know yours is freshly painted but mine is orginial and flawless. The windshield has no tiny chips from stones, hell there's no bugs stuck in the radiator. The suspension is tight. The only problem is the clear coat is starting to crack on a couple of the wheels. I have alot of the engine bay polished. I take it to the car show at Fuddruckers in Turnersville sometimes but mostly stays locked in my garage.

ok lemme try this again.
I have the cleanest syclone in nj if we only count the ones that get driven everyday. ok that should take care of that. Anybody else?
so mike I could probably have you over to give me an education of your times. Besides that I thinki need to see what you have polished under the
hood! My sense of smell is gone being in this business but i dont get any funny faces from riders :)

Randy had lots of problems, burning plug wires was the least of his issues, and more of a symptom.[/b]

heck it almost sounds like the come witha written warranty that says:

Congratulations are your purchase of atr headers.
These things are warranteed to rust, crack, split, and anything else you can think of before the life of your car ends. In the event you need to make a claim please call our customer warranty dept at 1-800-328-7448.

If you look at your phone dial pad you can figure out what letters match the numbers lol :)

Did i buy a pig in a poke part. I mean how long do they last, weeks, months 1 year , 2-3 years? Whoever said going fast was cheap?

I have mine ceramic coated and then i wrapped them with exaust wrap and they are still doing fine , they are about 15 months old now. :D

I never have a problem with my sparkplug wires like this, but i have the plug wires sleeved and hi temp fire sleeves on by the plug.

You can also try header jackets. Its not a wrap! So dont flame my ass! I know some are totaly against wraps. Ive used jackets with success on several projects, even with hi egt's. The difference is the jacket is a loose fit and will allow air between the material and the header. I would say only do it with stainless steel headers. The longest I had the stuff last was on a supercharged mustang I had. The headers lasted 3 years with me then I sold the car and it was wrecked in about a month. IMO wraps are fine too as long as its a made of SS and your not wrapping around a lot of welds. You could wrap the crossover and the downpipe, jacket the headers.
