Anything new for "while I'm in there" front diff upgrades?

Looking at posts going way back, the only possible upgrades I've seen for the front differential are basically the Power Trax locker and adding a drain hole.

Someone please tell me they came out with something really cool that has no downsides and is really cheap and easy to add in the last month or so?

i think guys were having trouble with the locker front diffs, makes it hard to keep the truck straight when launched.

ed hess took his out for this same reason. on the other hand the hoovers have one in there truck and have worked out the launch so that it goes straight. jwaller has his front carrier spider gears welded and the openings plate welded shut.... you will get many diff answers on the lockrite. keep in mind that the hoovers and ed hess are in a league of thier own.most of us will never see the power levels these guys are pushing.

if you have the time and are dedicated to tuning the suspension so that it will launch straight, then why would'nt you want one in there. 4 wheels pulling instead of 3 ?????
but that is just my opinion. i bought the one out of ed's truck and if i keep my sy it will be going in..

I'm pretty sure that the Lock Right has been discontinued for the 7.2 IFS. I don't know of anything else that is available for it.

powertrax sucks balls. everyone I know who has installed one has been greatly disappointed.

just sharing my opinion of course, I have no 1st hand experience

A Truetrac or Torsen would be great for one of these, if they would just make one.

Has anybody ever tried welding up the front diff like waller has done, and then replacing the passenger side axel with a reg 4x4 S-10 one and getting one of those posi lock cables to replace the factory vac engagemenmt system, then you could unock it for normal driving and have it fully locked up at the track??

I got this idea after talking to waller and him telling me how his was welded, but he hadnt done the axle swap yet.

Ive been thinking about doing this, just havent found a reg S-10 4x4 front diff worth buying yet.

Yeah, I probably wouldn't do the Power Trax. Someone quoted their own directions in an older thread, where they said not to use it in non-selectable diffs or something - but the viscous coupling might cancel out the problems they were warning about. Anyway, for a stockish daily driver, I don't think I need it enough to bother with the possible issues.

I've got a friend who works at Eaton, maybe I can have him convince someone there to make something for us. =)

Eaton owns Tractech now, so maybe they could build a Truetrac for it.
