SMC kit really isn't expensive considering what you get
Parts included:
pump (EFI type, pretty tolerant of non-gasoline liquids) est $100-150
bottle (hd plastic) est $20-40
wiring etc
pressure switch $15-40
pump speed controller (pulsewidth modulated) $20-50
low alky sensor est $10-20
braided lines $20-30
jets/nozzles/checkvalves $20-50
enclosure/knobs/lights/sticker $20-40
Prices are just my estimates.. but you can see it adds up pretty quickly.
Output is not proportional to boost level, but IMO, that isn't a huge necessity unless you are running a LOT of boost (25-30) where the pump comes on at 15-18psi. You'd either need a sequential multi-jet system or a pump controlled proportionally to boost. If you are running 20psi, and you turn the pump on at 15psi... you will only be 'over alky'd' for a couple psi. At that point, your boost level is rising pretty fast, so it's not a big deal.
The Aquamist kits/components are *top-notch* IMO, but their alky amount delivered IS less than what most Buick guys are using to achieve there race gas calibration levels (aka running 20-25psi on a race chip, using 93 octane). Basically you'd need to use 2-3 Aquamist pumps, and 4-5 Aquamist jets to achieve the same output.
What we are doing on a local Syclone will be to run a custom kit, as a few Buick guys have done. A Shurflo pump, using 4 of the largest Aquamist nozzles, fired sequentially.
Also, I have pics up of the SMC kit install on my old Ty.
