A/C removal

Well, I've been thinking about this for a while now, I simply don't need it, my Sy is not a daily driver, so practically speaking I've never used my A/C.

I can see two kinds of advantage, which could come with the removal.

1. First I can spare some weight. BTW, does anydody know how much weight we are talking about?

2. Second my engine cooling could become better. Any experience here?

I've read through the service manuals' appropriate sections, found a place who could evacuate my system properly and ordered a new serpentine bell. Any other comments, ideas?

I'm still hesitating, would be nice to hear hard facts...

Just from looking at the parts numbers on either Georgia Syty or sytyauthority (can't remember), there is a part number for A/C delete pulley, which I assume would replace the A/C asssembly with a pulley that bolt into the stock A/C loaction.

Now that's something, which I'd like to hear a bit more about. Found the part number (#10118713), gmpartsdirect.com lists it as a 'water pump pulley', but according to the parts book, that's what I'm looking for. Checked the bell routing diagram and indeed it requires a different belt, which skips the current idler pulley, but it still goes through something in the place of the compressor.

Pls chime in if you have done this...

Might save about 50-60 lbs and the pulley is just a ac delete pulley that you can get at any gm parts place. :D

Brian,

Thanks. Realized in the meantime, that I can use the same belt with the new idler pullyet. Gonna cancel the order (what kinda belt was the dealer talking about !? :x). BTW I thought it's heavier. 20 lbs is nothing, my guess was 20lbs for the compressor alone. Anyway, I can't see the pic. If you have it, could you pls email me. falco@tragacs.com

TIA,

Sorry-stupid Geoshities. Try that link above.

The compressor is pretty much it- the radiator thing weighs practically nothing along with the remaining stuff. 30lbs tops? I dunno- I compare everything to my dog- dog weighs 30 lbs......think the dog is heavier.
