This is the "how to" write up that I used when I did my first pull six years ago.
These two posts here and here will help you out too. I'm going to edit that last link so that it has the pics that are missing...
Pulling a transmission isn't for the faint hearted. Difficult bolts to contend with in a very confined space. Reinstall it incorrectly and you'll be lucky to get down your driveway and back. I can usually do a pull by myself without a lift, in two hours start to finish. If you aren't comfortable doing it, you are better off biting the bullet and paying someone else.

Having done mine, I would think about getting a tranny jack, that way you can tilt the tranny up/down. Having a helper is also a big plus. Drain the fluid, unbolt the convertor, disconnect the cable/wires. Buy me a plane ticket and I'll come help you take it out.

I find best thing is to do it in a certain order, believe it or not, the x member is one of the frist things to come off for me because it allows you much easier access to a few other things. Not sure what all Mikes how to says but one thing someone on here mentioned once was the use of motorcycle straps. I dont sue them for removal but for install. When doing this alone, it is nice for piece of mind to use this method.
