4l80e Nats Results

Thought I would comment on the 80e how it survived nats, and my perspective now that we have raced it, abused it, etc.

Drivability/MPG:

Jeremy drove the truck 580 miles each way at ~80mph. 17-19mph. 19 with tcc on, 17 with tcc off. So we lost no gas mileage with the swap. Try that with a 400?

Shifting:

The shifts are very smooth at normal driving, great shift points, no more 45mph in and out of OD, etc. When you get on the truck they are crisp, but not harsh.

Horsepower loss:

This has been a big debate about how much horsepower loss it will add. Claims of 75hp loss, etc.

I can say Jeremy's truck ran .2 seconds faster on 2 lbs less boost than last year and more miles per hour. 12.62 @105. Not bad for pump gas, on a stock turbo, stock motor truck. Anybody got any more mods that cost 75 horsepower?

Obviously the downside is cost. No way around that, even if I gave everybody conversion parts. Knowing the tranny will take all the punishment you can dish out is a nice feeling. http://ot.talkin-shit.net/syclone_awd_burnout.wmv

Anybody that got a ticket the the Jeremy Driving Roller Coaster can comment honestly on their feelings, be good to hear others perspectives also.

End result of 80e truck:
1st place Stock Turbo
Best Reaction Time
1st SyTy Dial in Drags
11 360 AWD donuts
1200 miles round trip
Most Innovative Mod

1st gear was perfect for launch...didn't blow the tires off like a 700 would have....2nd gear was awesome for cruising around the street...I think Jeremy kept it locked in 2nd in traffic on our way and on the way back to the "back-road test strip"...3rd and 4th, I don't remember because I was too busy being scared... :rotf: you know your shit's fast when your passenger is fumbling around looking for the seatbelt receiver thing.... I bet the exhaust valve seal issue is messing up your octane points, in turn affecting the track times...no big deal to fix...probably screwed with your tune though....time for vortecs and a pte52!!!

Someone please put this trans kit in a 9 sec truck so I can see how it does :)

How about you, Phil? :)
It couldn't do any worse than your 700 is/was.
BTW, I'm digging your avatar! Had to look at it a few times to realize it wasn't just my tired eyes.

Robert from Sweden has done it, just a different conversion method according to JS....

I heard that Robert's involved welding a 700 tailpiece onto the back of the 4L80E. Can you imagine the machining involved to try to get the flange surface right? JS's sounds a lot more realistic.

Waller is doing me a 700 with some nice goodies to try first.

The tranny didn't help my seat room at all on the trip out there though....Think you can work that into the Kit.......

Otherwise I have to say this is quite possibly the best shifting truck I've ever been in. The BRUTAL 1-2 part throttle kick in the seat of the built 700's is GONE. Much more comfortable ride around town when not driving at WOT (although with Jeremy as a driver that doesn't happen alot).

Fairly certain he left selector in OD.

The electronic control does the shifting, and even as rough as I have the shifting tuned, it is much better drivability than the 700 ever thought of being.

I think Jeremy had the hat at sumo....I was the other one.....

And yea I got my ass kicked at the sumo....I think the suit had an "anti-coordination" coating or something.

I hope you didn't missunderstand me...No question on the driveability and shifting....I noticed with normal driving (2% of the ride) there wasn't a jarring, sledgehammer 1-2 shift like my 700....Just nice and firm...The 1-2 shift from a "launch" was a different story however...firmer, but still not a sledgehammer, which is what I liked most about it....In traffic, around 15-25mph, he would roll on the throttle, spool up, then nail it....I asked him a couple of times if that was 1st and he said it was 2nd....I guess he knew how to work the throttle without letting it downshift into 1st....2nd gear was my favorite...perfect for street racing....I forgot to ask him how fast he could go in 2nd....Good thing he has a gilbert PS in...That truck launches hard....

One of the runs he ran purely in 2nd gear from start to finish as tranny computer came unplugged.

14.7 @ 66mph or something, he let off at half track.

I saw 85ish while tuning, in 2nd.

Re: 4l80e Nats Results

I'd have to say that is the best AWD donuts video ever recorded. Where the hell was i for that? I hope the GMHTP guy mentions the donuts in the mag.... Jeremy's Sy is very impressive...
