Anybody done any research on this?

From what i have found so far, appears to be for the Z06 Motor, and 400ft lbs of torque rating.

Seems to be close to the 60e, but with some upgraded parts inside.

I know my 700 is going to turn to little pieces when I get truck running again, debating on 65e when it blows, or 80e.

Anybody else looked into the 65?

it is a 4L60E with upgraded parts :) more specifically;

  • Five-pinion gears for input and reaction gearsets
  • Heat-treated stator shaft splines
  • Induction hardened turbine shaft
  • Heavier-duty low/reverse roller clutch
  • Additional friction plate added to 3-4 clutch
  • Shot-peened output shaft
  • Revised valve body calibration.

thats about it. Out of that list, the only "major" upgrade is the 5-pinion planet sets, in my opinion. The revised valvebody crap is useless for us, the Shot-peened output shaft cannot be used in the 700R4, however there is an aftermarket piece out now ($400), the additional friction plate stuff I thought was pretty common practice by performance tranny builders, as far as the other 3 things on that list, im not too familar with, but I believe there was already some existing aftermarket for those parts already.

I still wouldnt waste my time with a 4L65E if I had to do everything over again in my trans (knock on wood). I would just buck up and shell out whatever was needed for the 4L80E/4L85E conversion. :2cents:

Actually its in the Silverado SS. I dont believe its in the Z06 motor as thats a rear transmission and transaxle drive (C5-C6 application).

You can find some additional information at www.silveradoss.com and yes its basically a beefed up 4L60e, I dont know how much better it really is than the 700r4/4L60e but for a bolt in application (well sort of) it maybe worth a shot (then again, it maybe worth swapping an 80e in as well). Its all dependent on your budget.

The guys with Silverado SS's are making some decent #'s with their trucks and pulling a PIG of a truck around and only performing small mods to the transmission (like $400-600 in upgrades) with acceptable results. When they get into serious HP numbers tho, a few have gone with the 80e.

I dont know what you are worried about anyhow, its going to be atleast a year before your truck runs again anyhow :rotf: :2cents: :2cents:

Pot this is Kettle.........

IMO I wouldn't dick around with the 65e or the 60e or the 700r4......80e is the only way to go. Several people have taken that trans (in other apps as well as this one) to some serious times with minor mods. Seems silly almost to waste time with the others if you already know that the 700r4 is going to be in trouble.

However that is my mind talking, not my checkbook

the 65E also comes in the H2 hummer. I believe this is what it was designed for ans has the highest hp/tq numbers along with the highest towing capicity.

the mods listed are correct. the biggest for us are the planets and torque tube upgrade for eliminating the copper thrust washer. although that stuff isn't cheap it's pretty common for most builders and cheap insurance.

All the 65 stuff will fit the 700. I had a max out 700 when I got my truck to the 10.50 rang with 3.08’s the 700 threw in the towel . I whet threw a couple of tranys then put in a 400 and never looked back With 3.42’s it mite last a little longer . The 4l80e is the only answer for a OD trany at this point.

That is my debate.

I know the new combination will be making a lot of power and the 700r4 life will be short.

I have a good 9/11 in it now, I could sell/trade for helping of swap.

If I blow tranny up before upgrading, 9/11 will be mostly toast also.

So knowing low 11's, 10's are very doable, you think I should just bite the bullet and go with the 80e?

the output shaft will not work with the 700.

yes.
dont make the same mistakes I did. You'll eventually put so much into the 700R4 that the next time it breaks, you'll keep fixing it and fixing it cause it only keeps breaking $100 and $200 parts, when in the end, you could have saved yourself the money and nightmare of dealing with the 700, not to mention removing and installing it time and time again, and just done it right the first time with a 80E and hopefully not have to worry about it anymore.
